Tuesday's version of the Pep Talk

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Points of gratitude:

1. I have seen dozens of interpretations of the "over the hill" birthday recognized at work. You know the ones, the black crepe paper, the number dangling, the confetti. I'm very grateful they *didn't* do it to me.

2. Of course it helped that I went on vacation over my birthday and didn't come back 'til nearly a week later. I am grateful that the gang celebrated what I *did* with/on that trip (which you all already know about).

Point of success: Yesterday's pep talk was just what I needed. I did everything except for 7... and I was close. But I hung around to show off the finisher's medal to a couple of folks who are my work cheerleaders.

Point of determination: Figuring out my own personal "line in the sand" to get me through December... yes, it's only three days away. And we all know that December is full of busy-ness, temptation, and not so full of daylight!

I know my line in the sand includes my stress-buster walking breaks at work. I know it includes three short strength training sessions a week to start. And some runs, just to keep from losing that aspect of fitness. How many, how often... TBD.

But there also has to be room for the rest of life: you know the stuff. Decorating for the holiday... will I or won't I? Making SOME time to see my in-town family. And of course, dealing with whatever white stuff falls from the sky.

Today WILL be a great day. No matter what, I shall live in it! And LIFE is good. Spark on! emoticon

Black crepe paper? Thats a new one on me. You have hit upon a way to avoid annoying birthday celebrations at work though -take a vacation during it! You are one smart woman!
Good planning sticking with your fitness during the very difficult winter season -a pain for runners as it is a pain for me not being able to get out to my fitness classes -I can work out at home, but its just not the same as the live classes with an instructor encouraging you to work harder, go higher, go faster ;)
Have a good work week!

I'm not terribly fond of birthday celebrations at work, either. Congratulations on sidestepping the b-day festivities and getting the re-entry conversations at work to focus on something more positive!

And yes, the December lines in the sand. I need to think about those, too.

Great blog & great attitude! Not sure WHICH milestone bday you're celebrating. I've had so many of those "over the hill" ones I should be covered in the black crepe paper by now. Happy belated birthday!

The weather gets to me. Too cold and gray, and not enough daylight! But you sound like you have a plan for next month.

Good job, Barb! For sure, my walks are a non-negotiable. Not unless you wanna deal w/a Mama Bear woken up from hibernation w/o food !

My other big challenge is being the ONE who does HOLIDAYS. It gets to be kind of difficult @ times, BUT I figure it this way. As far as that goes, my parents sacrificed a LOT for us kiddos when we were growing up. I really don't mind it. Just have to do lots of time re-arranging to get 'er done. I survived Thanksgiving very well, so know I can do it for Christmas as well. So, there you have it. I'm thankful for that for sure . . . that I know I can make it! And I WILL get my walks in.

HUGS Barb.

I know what you's these short, cold days that also seem to stand in my way! At least we are now close to the shortest day of the year and they will start getting longer again! I joined the gym for December to get me out. Sounds like you have a good plan too!
