2 weeks to marathon

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

No, not my first; this next one makes #7 (or 8?), but may very well be my last. However, my daughter reminded me that, like the character "Monk," I have certain special numbers (his was 10, mine is 12) - things must be in sets of 12. Therefore, I won't be happy until I get to #12 - according to her.

However, this has not been my best year for training for anything, it has been my absolute worst. A series of bike crashes and problems with my feet have made training a bit difficult, and I'm worried about the upcoming marathon. I know I can get through it; my goal was to get through it with a good PR.

Well...I'll do well to just cross the finish line...again...not such a bad goal...

    I entered 10 marathons

    7 completed
2 became half marathon finishes (heat, got sick on the route)
1 DNF, this last attempt ended with a ride in the back of an ambulance when I collapsed at mile 10.5 (heat exhaustion)

My next marathon will be in cool weather!

Hi, Chrimsonfyre - I've also done the 3-Day and got scolded for running (I just walk really fast, lol), and was the Walk Trainer for our local team. The weekend following the event, a number of us did a half marathon. Totally nuts. All the same, the 3-Day was a lot of fun, and I admire those who can endure doing it again. A friend of mine, who is a runner and cancer survivor, has done more than 10 3-Days and is now running half marathons. It's an awesome accomplishment to have done 2 3-Days!

With your training, you have the endurance to do a marathon - just 6 more miles (or, just a 10K more).

wow....7 or 8 marathons is an amazing accomplishment! I have yet to do any. I have done a couple of 5k and 2 Breast Cancer 3day walks (60 miles in 3 days), but a lot of it had walking, not running. I hope to get to be where you are one day!
