Dragonfruit

Monday, November 26, 2012

I tried dragonfruit today and it was yummy.

You usually cut it in half lengthwise (I found out), then use a spoon to scoop out the white part with the little seeds. It was described to me as a mix between watermelon and a pear. But it's not. It's a less sweet kiwi, or more like watermelon rind- very subtle. And the texture is not as juicy as kiwi- closer to watermelon and pear, but not mealy.

I love how exotic and pretty it is. It makes me pay attention. It makes me remember. It's special and good, like a treat. And all of that is a million times more rewarding than the last candy bar I ate (too quickly), with far fewer calories.

Funky. From the outside it almost looks like a pomegranate that's been stretched. :)

They are beautiful! I find that Dragonfruit flavored things (vitamin water, etc...) taste better than the actual fruit...LOL

I've avoided dragon fruit b/c I've had no idea how to cut it! But I have to admit, I love buying random freggies I've never had before, just to try them. And if they're pretty, its a bonus!

I got one from a farmer's market last year because I knew I had to try it. It was good, but I wasn't blown away by it. I think the flavor was so subtle I was almost disappointed. It is very refreshing, though! Too cool to try it, eh?

I have seen it in the specialty supermarkets in FL, but I did not know how to tell if it was ripe and it was very expensive.

Great stuff. Tried it when I was in Taiwan but haven't found it anywhere here in the States. There are a lot of amazing fruits out there to explore.

I don't believe I've ever seen this fruit before. It does look strange. What can you compare it's taste too? I'll have to check and see if I can find it here in Southern Oregon. Love all your blogs! emoticon
