Success! I ran the Thanksgiving Turkey 10k and am totally happy with myself. I set this goal many months ago and despite bumps in the road with my training schedule, I still did it.
The day was beautiful for Utah--about 35 degrees and sun. I was a little thrown off because the app I use on my phone to track my runs didn't work as planned. That will teach me to try and use rules to extend my battery life. I literally had no idea how far I had run which made it mentally harder for me. However in a way it was liberating not checking pace all the time.
My knee was giving me trouble as it has been for the last couple months. I bought new shoes which helped but didn't fix it. By the end I was really hurting but kept going anyway.
My 5 year old was waiting for me near the end and we crossed the finish line together, hand in hand. Words cannot express how much it meant to have him supporting me.
Chip time was 1:09:43. Not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm still really proud of myself. There were plenty of reasons to not meet this goal but I bucked up and did it anyway.
Here's a pic of my son and I after he ran the 1k and I finished the 10k. We did it!
