Back to work Pep Talk time!

Monday, November 26, 2012

Time to "gird up the loins" as King James' version used to say... i.e. arm myself for the return to work. I haven't taken this long a vacation from the job since I took the position. I was rather proud of myself for not checking e-mail from home, the whole time. So I have no clue what will be waiting for me when I get in.

This is a recipe for "overwhelmed", as many of you might be thinking. Definitely a day for the line in the sand mentality. I have my bag of lunch and snacks packed. For the mental battle, some reminders to self:

1. You are not indispensible.
2. You don't have to do it all.
3. Just prioritize and do the most important things first.
4. Delegate.
5. Remember to take your breaks. Walk. Briskly. There is nothing so urgent it won't wait 10 minutes.
6. The chocolate in the system test room will NOT make it better.
7. Leave on time. It will all still be there tomorrow.

Got it? Got it!

Oh, and when you get home, reward yourself for survival! Remind yourself of item #1.

LIFE is good. LIFE is more than work. Live it in the moment, and Spark on! emoticon

You lost me at #6. What do you mean the chocolate won't make it better?

So true. I actually didn't check my office email while away for the four day weekend. It was as thought, full!! Some of the most stupid questions the staff can ask about a personnel policy and apparently being the HR Manager, I am the only one that can answer the stupid questions. AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to work realities. Have a good day, take your breaks, walk briskly every chance you have and leave on time. It will wait for you to return another day.

Great blog! So true! I've already had one call this morning asking me about my research for something that was given to me Tuesday before Thanksgivi emoticon emoticon emoticon ng! The caller said "I'm sure you did lots of reading over the holidays so I wanted to see what you came up with." I was like...um, I didn't eve turn on my computer for 4 days and it was fabulous. Nice try!

Have a fabulous Monday and celebrate your survival tonight!

"live in the moment" - great advice. I needed this blog today as I get back to "real" life - a messy house, pile of clothes to wash, and a to do list filled for the week. Thanks you
for reminding me - tomorrow is another day.

The downside of vacations is the work waiting us when we get back LOL! Great plan for today. Hope it goes fairly easy and not a ton of things piled up.
