Thanksgiving Success

Sunday, November 25, 2012

I am so happy that I stuck to my plan through the Thanksgiving celebration and managed to still lost 1.5 pounds over this past week. It is one of the best feelings and truly makes me believe in the saying "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!" I still splurged on a few items that are my favorite. The difference was I took a little taste instead of eating a whole bunch. For example, my family is from Wisconsin and every year we go to a good family friend's house the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving for a little get together. This family is also from Wisconsin, so they always have a huge tray of cheese curds fresh from Wisconsin on their buffet. These are like sin on a plate! If you eat enough of them it is basically guaranteed you will gain a completely new roll on your stomach by the end of the night. I stuck to just one to satisfy my craving. The next morning we went to our annual local town parade with the same family. The spread then had some deviled eggs. This is one of my favorite special once a year kind of dishes as well, but I used some self control and just had one-half. Finally, Thanksgiving meal rolled around and I am proud to say I got many funny looks from my family as I measured out all my sides so that I could try a little of everything without busting my calories for the day! I managed to make only a 550 calorie plate that evening with pumpkin pie included. I was surprised at how much I actually did not miss the zipper busting feeling on my pants that I normally have after Thanksgiving. I just felt satisfied. It was also nice to be able to go on a long walk with my Mom after the dishes were cleaned up (no way that would have ever happened in the past as I would have been passed out in a tryptophan comma on the couch). Now that this holiday has passed, I focused on decorating my apartment for Christmas and even baked some peach & raspberry cupcakes to take to my parent's house this evening. I hope that everyone else had a successful Thanksgiving and that you accomplished all your goals!
