AWESOME Ground Beef Tips!!

Sunday, November 25, 2012

We went through a phase where we ate very little ground beef. The good stuff (90-97% lean) is so expensive and the affordable stuff was so unhealthy! Being the nerd that I am, I did some research. Apparently, if you buy the cheap stuff and rinse it in hot water it is as healthy as the good stuff! Here is a great article (a little technical, but good). You can also google "rinsing ground beef".

The cheap stuff was on sale at my local grocery store yesterday. I bought 5 lbs for $9! I browned it all, drained, blotted, and rinsed. Put it all in quart size ziplocs (2 cups = approximately 1 lb raw) and put it in the freezer . This is HUGE time saver on those nights when busy moms need to get food on the table. Or busy dads or busy folk without progeny.

I will use this to make Taco Pizza (one of my family's favorites) later in the week. Will try to blog that recipe.

I find I am not buying a lot of meat, chicken seems to be my choice but Oh My it is
getting expensive,I make a couple of Chili recipes one made with ground turkey and 3 different kinds of beans, recipe is on the other is your recipe of choice
but instead of ground meat I use TVP {textured vegetable protein}if you don't tell your family they won't know the difference.when it is cooked in the chili recipe it has the
same texture as ground meat. emoticon
