Last year between Thanksgiving and Christmas I made (and consumed) about 100 pounds of caramels, cookies, toffee crunch candy, etc. And the scale showed it. I gained about 7 pounds that month.
My problem is that I LOVE baking. I own more cookie cookbooks and magazines than probably anybody else on the planet. But I know that if I make all those goodies, I won't have the willpower to not eat them all. What to do.....
I've decided that the way to have my cake (cookies) and NOT eat it, too, will be to bake my very favorites, immediately put them in the freezer and two weeks before Christmas thaw them out and make cookie plates to take to all the nearby Firestations for the fire fighters to enjoy. I will leave enough for my family to have a nice variety for the week before Christmas, allow myself to enjoy a few, as long as they are within my caloric guidelines for the day, and BE HAPPY!
I already started this weekend. I love to bake with Christmas movies on in the background. It puts me in a very good mood. And as long as the cookies are in the freezer, they are not a temptation.
