my crazy HIIT workout and my closet clean out

This day began very productively. I woke up at 7:30, had a bowl of Cheerios emoticon and washed, folded and put away three loads of laundry. I also took it upon myself to go through the clothes in my closet to see if they still fit. I don't know whether to be happy or sad about it but after trying on clothes, I had to get rid of a third of my closet. I always try to buy quality rather than quantity so that put a huge dent in my closet. I looked through the pieces and begin to think of how much money I spent, how cute they were. I told myself maybe I should hang on to them "just in case". I quickly stopped myself and said there is no just in case. I will not prepare to gain this weight back. I will not be an 18/20 or a size 16 again. I will not make it convenient for myself to backslide. I called one of my former employees who I still keep in contact with and love very much. She is a recent college graduate working at a major company as an accountant. She cannot afford nice things right now. When I initially lost a huge chunk of weight, I let her go through all my clothes and pick what she wanted. She took everything I couldnt fit with the exception of one item. I feel good knowing that these nice clothes will be going to someone I care about and it will make her feel good about herself and look more professional. Plus, I was able to go to the mall and get a new skirt, blouse and dress and I also took two pairs of slack to the tailors to be taken in. Hopefully that will buy me time. emoticon
After going through my closet and cleaning the kitchen I picked my sister up and we went to the gym. Both of us had a goal that we set on May 21st to lose 50 lbs by New Years. She has 11 pounds to go and I have 7. Both of these are pretty lofty goals but I know they are not impossible in five and a half weeks. I designed a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout that on paper looked viscious but it wasnt until we were 30 minutes in that I began to think that I was in hell emoticon . We began on the treadmill walking at a steady pace (me at 3.7 and her at 3.3) for five minutes. We then kicked it into a run for two minutes (4.5mph and 5.2mph for me). At the end of those two minutes we jump of the treadmill and did a series of squats followed by squat jumps (plyometrics) followed by more squats. We then immediately get back on the treadmill and resume the walk/run intervals for 7 more minutes. Then we do Toe/Knee/Skies (more plyometrics) followed by more squats and more TNS. ANother walk/run interval and then we do bicep curls and shoulder presses with 15 lb dumbbells for 2 minutes straight. We walk and run some more before we do chest presses with a 10lb plate which we also use to do overhead tricep extensions, around the worlds, and steering wheels with. We then repeat that whole sequence again. That entire workout took us 1hour and 20 minutes with a five minute cool down and 5 minutes of stretching for an hour and a half. We looked like sh$t! My sister had on two shirts and a sweatshirt over that and the sweat shirt had sweat stains on it. I nearly felt delirious. But I burned 848 calories just during the actual workout which is great for me because it is so much harder for me to burn calories like I used to. I can do an hour of Zumba non-stop and I only burn 540-605 calories so burning nearly 900 again feels great and I was able to incorporate strength training as well. I would definitely recommend HIIT training to anyone that has been plateauing or is bored in their workouts.

    I've been planning to clean and purge all weekend and have yet to get started again. I did a mini purge last week but it feels so good to give doesn't it. Especially when you see your success as well. Now for that workout you and your sister did --- I am truly exhausted now. I was tired after my workout tonight but I just got a whiff of you guys workout and I'm done!!! I can't wait to get to that level of working out. I just blogged my next levels. Hopefully and prayerfully my body will cooperate with me. At 48 it's sort of hard getting it to stay focused :) Great job lady, great job

    emoticon emoticon on your progress and those aren't lofty goals 7 lbs in 5 weeks, so doable. I keep looking at some of my clothes and all I want to do is take them to the cleaners, so they can take them in.
