Riding in Modesto

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Rise & Shine at 6am. Hard to do as the night’s rest wasn’t. Made it up anyway. Dan got up too. We got ready and over to Greg & Debbie’s place on time. Re-loaded the bikes in their pickup and we all headed to Modesto. Met their family members and headed out for our ride.

As we drove into Modesto, we went through some areas of tule fog but it was clear in Modesto. It was also cold. Poor Dan didn’t think to bring his jacket so was miserable for the first part of the ride. It finally warmed up enough that his joints weren’t aching as much.

The fog was gone before we got back to those areas and I’m glad of that. There was almost no climbing for the whole ride. What a switch from my usual rides. The sun was out and it got warmer. We stopped for coffee/tea and treats in Oakdale. By the time we were done, it was too warm to wear a jacket.

At the end of the day, we’d gone 47 miles. The original estimate was for 37 miles – oops! This was the longest ride yet for Debbie and Melissa. Others on the ride were Greg, Dan, Brian, Bill and Russell (and me).

Felt so good to do a long ride with a great group of people.

MISSG180 - check local bike shops in Vacaville. You may find one that will rent you a bicycle. I've done that on some of my trips. Its a great way to try out a different bike as well as get some good riding in. There are bike trails in the Vacaville area too. Look up a local bike club if the shops can't direct you to some good rides.

I will be in California (Vacaville) at Christmas time, and really wish I had a bike to ride while I was out there. I'd love to go up and ride in Napa!
