After the Half Marathon

Again, thanks to Barb (ONEKIDSMOM), Monty (MIRAGE727), and Darren (DSSECRETS) for a great and fun half marathon. Couldn't have done it without you -- at least not as fast and not as fun!

Then it was to the beach for a week of family fun:

I worked toward the half marathon for 5.5 months. Now what?

I'm thinking I'll stay with the Galloway group. I'll run a "miracle mile" as soon as I can and try to move up to a faster group. I'd like to train at run 2 minutes/walk 1 minute and do my next half at that pace; the one I just finished I did at 1 min run/1 min walk. I believe I can run faster safely and still enjoy it.

I'm also thinking about getting a personal trainer. My first choice would be a trainer who is a certified running coach with experience in coaching 60 year old woman and extensive knowledge and experience with strength training. I've been slacking a bit on and off on the strength training and want to pick that up. I particularly want to strengthen my lower back and core.

In 2013 I'm planning to do more local races: 5K, 10K, HM or other. I might consider doing the St Pete Women's Half again especially if Barb, Monty, and Darren are running. I'm planning to observe a triathlon and consider whether I want to train for one.

In 2014 I'm planning to do a Disney half marathon. Will have to decide which one to do. There is the Disney World Marathon Weekend, January 9-12, 2014 or the Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend Feb 21-23, 2014. I considered 2013, but family wants to make a big trip out of it thinking Gwen will enjoy it more in a year. Sounds good to me!!

So, I don't have my next race selected but I have the beginning of a plan. And I have a commitment to continue to make running and fitness important parts of my life!

    So many choices for you to try for races! It will be interesting to see what you choose for your next race. Good on you wanting to ramp up your fitness to the next level with a personal trainer, that and being with the Galloway group sure will keep you on your toes!!     Hey Marsha! If the race tomorrow is anything close to what we've experienced over the last 36 hours, I'll be committing BACK to the Space Coast! BUT we're still leaning towards the Lady Schick as I loved the course you ran and the organization of it all. In any case, set your next challenge, embrace it, and it will become yours!

    Looks as though your week at the beach gave you time to consider... I like your plans and commitment to continued fitness. I've been doing some of the same, although I have not blogged about it, yet.

    That Olympic tri next August in Wisconsin I've talked about? I looked up training plans on line today, and discovered I'd have to start my sixteen week training plan in mid-April to make the dates work. Which means either skipping the Lincoln Half in May, or overlapping training plans. The overlapping training plans this year gave me a little unease, but it worked out in the end.

    While there is a lot of year between now and some of these events, sign ups happen early. Still lots of time to prep once you commit. This Winter I want to focus more on strength, too. Started today with a brief upper body workout. I don't really have to start half marathon training for Lincoln until January.

    But I will say I already promised my cousin's daughter that if she trains up for half marathon distance I'll come do the St. Pete's women's half with her next November! Given she had just done her first 5K the week before... it's a distinct possibility.
