The leftovers will not win!

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Yes, those leftovers who are calling my name from the fridge....you know who you are...the stuffing, the old fashioned corn pudding, the yams with apple, coconut and pecans, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Not to mention the carrot cake and flan. I hear them calling but I will be rude and not acknowledge them! They will get none of my attention. And that is final! I will eat the white meat turkey that I carefully weigh on my scale with fresh lime and tomato on my high fiber low calorie nopal tortilla.

I ate low and healthy yesterday and feel so much better today. 2 of the 3.5 pounds of the water weight are gone. Thank goodness. Once I made up my mind that I would rather throw the left overs out when my DH is finished with them, I found a certain peace. I went right back into my healthy routine and am feeling so proud. Happiness truly is the feeling of control of what you put in your mouth!

How are you all doing with the leftovers....are they winning?
Hope you all have a terrific week end.
Cheers
Sallie

Because there were only 2 of us this year I basically have no leftovers. Instead of a whole turkey I just bought 2 leg/thighs to cook so there was just enough for dinner & lunch the next day. I didn't make many sides, just potatoes & gravy, and buttered corn. I don't like corn that much and mashed potatoes are OK but not something that calls my name. For dessert my daughter wanted banana cream pie, something else I'm not hugely in love with.

So over all Thanksgiving was not a food fest disaster for me.

I love turkey leftovers but sadly I don't have any. I do have sole calling my name. Food for you for passing them up.

The only leftovers I have is the coconut custard pie that I got for free when I stopped on Wednesday to buy the manager's special on whole wheat bread. I sidestepped all the other leftovers by not having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

Control is winning. The box on the pie claims a serving is 1/5 of the pie. I cut it into 8 pieces, and have had one per day for 3 days. My daughter had one today, Four more days, and it's history, unless daughter shows up to share it and make it disappear faster. I can do this.

It was just the two of us so not many leftovers. DH had the "bad" ones yesterday and we finished off the "good" ones today. I took inspiration from your status and posted it for mine, too! Yes it feels good to get back to good habits!

We didn't have many left overs this year, but on Thanksgiving morning (we did our big meal on Wednesday) I threw away the leftover pies, and snacks. We still have some turkey and mashed potatoes left, but the "bad" stuff is all gone, thanks to the garbage can! emoticon

Almost no leftovers this year. We were at a beach condo and went out for Thanksgiving dinner. The boxes we did bring home we ate just a few hours later. Now, I did hear some mumbling about how I should cook a turkey dinner tomorrow. We'll see.

Best wishes on dealing with your leftovers. That can be really difficult. Your peace after making the commitment to throw out whatever hubby doesn't want shows what a good plan that is. You are stronger than stuffing; stronger than corn pudding; and yes, even stronger than carrot cake and flan!!

I'm betting on you. You are just too healthy and determined and attractive to let those leftovers mess with you!!! Thanks for all your support on my half marathon!! -Marsha

We didn't make a huge meal this year. I brought the leftovers to work yesterday for lunch and that finished them up.

Well done! Great attitude and the turkey meat on tortillas is much nicer than any stuffing or cake :)
My leftovers are shrimp - made a nice salad with those.

Well, we had leftovers for dinner last night but I'm glad I worked yesterday and today so I am back on track- and we are going out tonight so the rest of them will go into the trash (except for the bones I'll use to make stock).

Oh man, I wish I had read this blog earlier! I did fine Thursday and Friday, but after another disappointing weigh-in this morning, I binged on ham and bread dressing!

I am sending the leftovers with my son or getting rid of them. The pumpkin gorgonzola ravioli is calling and I need to get rid of it.

Are you using nopal for a tortilla? I use romaine lettuce..but nopal sounds interesting.

It was a TOUGH decision to realize that I would rather throw it away than carry it on my body, but the weight that was lifted off my shoulders was tremendous once I realized that. I had another tough decision years ago when I started BUYING water instead of soda when I was out - it just seemed wrong somehow to pay MONEY for WATER. Now I recognize the wisdom of BOTH decisions and the results are worth the momentary hesitation about waste or being frivolous.
