Simple rules for living (especially the last line)

Friday, November 23, 2012

"In dwelling, live close to the ground.
In thinking, keep to the simple.
In conflict, be fair and generous.
In governing, don't try to control.
In work, do what you enjoy.
In family life, be completely present."

~Lao Tzu

My neighbor had a sign just inside her backdoor as a reminder to her daughter-in-law (who ignored it completely):
LIFE IS IN SESSION...ARE YOU PRESENT?

I was reading an article about creative writing, and regarding settings, one author said simply "Be there." Ties in completely with Lao Tzu's last line. Mindfulness is a good habit to develop.
