Hanging in there

Friday, November 23, 2012

Hello all,

It has been a month or near to it since my last blog.

With the new business growing slowly I have been busy.

We had weeks of good jobs and folks to work with were fair,

Then there was the last month in which we had 2 super hard to

work for people and ended up cutting our losses with a guy.

The job was a 2 week full remodel and 1/4 of the way through

the weather warmed up. The next day of warm weather the

gentleman's contractor friend of 30 years came by to show

him things he would have done differently. It was easy to

figure out .. The friend/contractor did not want the job due to it being

26f out when we got the approval to move forward. However,

he was ready to work when the weather was in the 50's. I was

able to understand this right away and after explaining myself

to the co owner and them trying to find other small things I finally

decided that they were going to harrass me if I continued on the

job so I said," It seems to me you are wanting to part ways?".

This was when he told his true colors and said yes we do and

we want our friend to take over the remodel.

This was after working for another mean customer back

to back and I decided enough was enough and started back

to work on my cabin on our property. So this last week me

and my Nephew have been rebuilding our culvert/small bridge

to cross our creek that a huge flood had damaged. We then

will continue to work up top on the cabin after. We will still

take on new work but mostly just plumbing and small misc. jobs.

Sorry to hear your having a hard time with meanies and double crossers. There are more people out there with integrity, it's just a matter of time before you find them. Keep at it, buddy. I'm excited about more pictures of the cabin (hope you're catching my not-so-subtle drift, lol).

Know how hard it is sometimes when you are in business for yourself-my DH was and he had people he would refuse to do work or sell to because he got pretty good at reading people and knew who would be a problem! I hope as time goes on you develop that skill also but you will always get some who are real pains!
Hang in there.

I'm sorry you've had a couple of bad customers. What gall to get rid of you just because his buddy wanted the job. I'm glad you've been able to work on your property, and still get a few small jobs. Good for you for having a good attitude about it all.

UNFORTUNATELY, CHRIS, YOU GET PEOPLE LIKE THIS, MY SON IS SELF EMPLYED AND HE ALWAYS INSISTS ON HALF UP FRONT WITH THE REST PAYABLE ONCVETHE JOB IS DONE. THAT TENDS TO SRT OUT THE POEPLE THAT ARE GENUINE OR NOT. MAYBE OYU MIGHT CONSIDER THIS FOR ANY BIG JOBS IN THE FUTURE, OR AT LEASTA DOWNPAYMENT OF MAYBE AROUND 25%. I WOULD THINK YOU HAVE GROUNDS TO INVOICE THE GUY FOR THE WORK DONE, AND NO COURT IN THE WORLD WOULD DENY YOU THAT. IT IS A HASSLE, BUT MAYBE THAT WAY THE MESSAGE WILL BE SENT THAT OYU ARE NOT TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY AND IF YOU ARE GIVEN A CONTRACT THEN IT IS EXPECTED THAT YOU WILL FINISH AND BE PAID FOR IT.

IT IS GOOD TO SEE OYU BACK AT WORK ON OYUR CABIN THOUGH. YOU WORKED SO HARD EBFORE YOU STARTED THE BUSINESS AND YOU WILLNEED TO TRY AND GET IT SORTEDBEFORE ANY FURTHER DAMAGE IS DONE TO IT. THINGS WERE GOING SO WELL ON THIS PERSONAL JOB AND MAYBE YOU CAN TAKE A COUPLE OF WEEKS OFF JUST TO FOCUS ON THE CABIN FOR A WHLE.

I AM REALLY PLEASED THAT YOUR BUSINESS HAS TAKEN OFF FOR OYU. AFTERT ALL TH HASSLE YOU HAD WITH THE RENTALS YOU DESERVE SOME LUCK TO GO YOUR WAY. HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR WILL BE AN EVEN BETTER ONE FOR YOU AND THAT YOU MIGHT BE IN THE EXPANSION BUSINESS AND WILL BE TAKING ON STAFF. YOU JUST NEVER KNOW.

HOPE YOU ALL AHD A GREAT THANKSGIVING AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL NOT BE ANOTHER MONTH OR SO BEFORE YOU CAN COME BACK AND SAY HI.

TAKE CARE AND ALL THE BEST TO YOUR FAMILY.

I wish I had your physical strength and construction, etc skills (from an old lady's perspective, read 'handyman.') We could give you lots of little jobs to fill in when the big ones fall short.

Well, dear Chris, lessons are learned by all these fiascoes we go through.

Glad your holiday was good. I tried to sincerely track every bite I ate...tracker would suggest water and salad with low fat dressing for the next week....in addition to extra fitness.

Hope your back heals well. I trust you know the proper way to lift to save your back, etc.

I'm going to check out chip health.

I hope you were at least paid for the time you put in for the man as people should not be encouraged to do this sort of thing.

You were smart to walk away when you did. This man will find out the hard way his friend is a fair weather worker. who wants that? I wouldn't. And this week it's supposed to get cold again. Where is his "friend" going to be to work on his remodel? No longer your headache. =) But don't be surprised if this guy calls you back.

Keep up the good work Chris!
