8 Lbs of Chanamas - Report Week 1 Results Below

If this makes no sense to you at all, it's not too late. Read up on the game here and join us!

If you are in, the 1st marking period is in and Santa is on duty, checking who has been naughty and who has been nice. Post your success or failure below. And the good news is that the Grinch remains in a tryptophan-induced food coma and is snoring away.

This means that NO ONE IS BOOTED in week one, but you owe your fellow players greater effort if you missed the goal of losing one pound over the last six days. If you started last Friday, or weigh-in was on Thanksgicing, if you started Saturday it is on Black Friday, etc. We're stepping on the damn thing every six days, etc.

Newbies, the basic rules are this:

1. Weigh in every six days. The goal is to be one pound less, each time you weigh in. If your progress is insufficient, the Grinch, as judge, jury and executioner, boots you from the game.

3. Thanksgiving came. And went. And so will the Company Holiday Party, Goodies Arriving at the Office, Chanukah, the Winter Solstice, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Kwanzaa and New Year’s Day. Each of these present their own food and drink temptations. Give in if you must, or don’t. In either case, every sixth day, come hell or high water, up on the scale you go, no crying or fibbing. Lose one measly pound, each time.

4. The money tree is in full bloom in my backyard. I water it regularly with the revenues from the ads on the periphery of YOUR Spark web pages - I NEVER see any because of filters and blockers, thank you very much. Anyway, large cash prizes are available to whomever, like me, WILL lose eight pounds between now and January 1, 2013. Never you mind or worry about where the cash comes from. My laser printer is working quite well, and you should see this cool green paper with the little fibers built in. I even have a paper-cutter, to make perfectly shaped Benjamins. Franklin would be impressed. As would the US Marshals...

5. All you need to be is brutally honest below, by posting your success or lack thereof in a comment – every six days post how you are doing and why. If you post in your own status or blog instead (its better, here) - preface the status or blog with “8 LBS” – so we all will know that you’re playing.

6. No teams to join, or special requirements, other than outlined below.

E-I-G-H-T. Five letters. Five simple steps:

E – Eat in Great Moderation – Use the Sparky tracker or otherwise be super-careful, as holiday foods are super-caloric. If it looks, smells, tastes or feels deadly, it is.

I – Indulge in Damn Little – Little tastes only, of the holiday goodies, if that. Abstinence is the key, here.

G – Greet the challenge of this effort in positive light. Think not about the deprivation of the missed eating and drinking opportunities, but how much happier you will be come January 1st.

H – Hoist eight glasses of water a day. Wait, do you know what? Make it ten. You better.

T – Tell the rest of us how you are doing, with regular status updates, blogs, or comments below.

Last person standing wins the ersatz cash and the perpetual envy of their Spark friends. In the event of more than one, cash prizes will be pro-rated amongst those who remain, based on relative weight lost. One other simple rule: brutal, cold-light-of-day, unflinching, honor-system honesty.

Alright, that’s it. Simple, huh? Post away!

Gail, banking it is fine. 8 lbs by New Year's is the point.

Please send this question to the all powerful judges for clarification.

You said you lost over 2 pounds in week 1. Does the "extra" pound get saved? Like a pound savings account for a rainy day (or snowy day)?

I'm asking because I too lost more than a pound during week 1 (thanks to being at the top of my range at the start of the game). It's easier to stop the upward climb of the numbers and go back downwards when starting with the bigger numbers. So do I keep my "extras lost" in case I need them IF the scale number does not read minus one more during some future week (which is a real possibility if history repeats, again).

OK, here goes (since I was strong-armed by a nameless individual to put my money where my mouth is, I joined this challenge):

I weigh in on Sundays (and will stick to that for consistency's sake), so baseline for Week One on November 18th, showed a modest (VERY modest) quarter of a pound gain. OR we can look at this as baseline for this challenge, therefore nothing happened! [I kinda like those results somewhat better.]

So, today then, the beginning of Week 2: No change at all [which leaves me relieved since I was out of town on business, and it was somewhat messy. Not an excuse, just the facts.] But considering it was Thanksgiving Week, and that particular day I was really, really, REALLY good and stayed ALMOST [thought it was in calorie range, but in the interest of full disclosure, I went back to check] completely in calorie range, and THAT was in a restaurant with family! And, NO, I didn't succumb to the temptation of dessert [besides, nothing really appealed to me]. I STUCK TO MY GUNS especially on T-Day. I just need to be more mindful of the rest of the week, and not eat on the run [big sin of mine].

Week 3 will be better! You'll see!

Thanks, Cap'n, for all your organizational skills,

Nu

Ok, I'm in. Hope springs eternal and I'll try anything --- at least once! Scale edged up, slowly, slowly over time. But this week it's down.

E – Eat in Great Moderation –Super careful to careful.

I – Indulge in Damn Little – Little tastes only, of the holiday goodies. Abstinence has never been MY goal.

G –Goodness?! Me? Think positive?! Can I do sarcastic instead???

H – Hydration --- I'm not counting drinking water. Maybe, it works but it depresses me ---and I have no trouble drinking water. No soda for me! I don't drink my calories (except wine at dinner when I have some available!). Should have prepared better on race day because of the surprising heat (50's is hot for end of November) but grabbed the paper cups.

T – I didn't even want to admit to myself that I'm playing but I wrote my weight down last Sunday, stepped on the scale today, and routinely look for updates about this. So I'm here. Count me in.

Down 1 lbs!! But am off to Mexico for 2 weeks, on Monday. Guess I won't be able to stay in the challenge, have no access to a computer. emoticon
But I DO plan to keep losing while I'm there. Am I nuts or just kidding myself? The plan is to give it my best shot.
Much success to all of you on this challenge. I'm sure Boss will keep you in line. emoticon

I don't know if today is my weigh in. My daughter thinks it might be. Here goes

E- enthusiastic at first, then a bit afraid, panicked on Wednesday, had a whipped cream and meringue meltdown.

I- In fact, I lost it on Thursday and had a can of Cheerwine for breakfast and one for lunch. But did make it to church and hauled everyone off to the gym for 45 minutes while the bird was in the oven.

G- Gave myself permission to try to enjoy the first Thanksgiving since my father died.

H- Had single servings of everything on the table

T- Took myself to the gym this morning to meet my new trainer and start a year's worth of workouts because I am too lazy to make myself stick with it on my own.

Nov 18 Starting weight: 205.2
Nov 23 weight: 203.8

Your T day sounds great. Bacon fat! my daughter loves the website Epic Meals. I don't think we have had that much bacon in the house in the entire 33 years we have been married. LOL

Holy artery clogging deliciousness, Batman! Sweet potato, butter and bacon fat! Tastebuds on full alert. I'd find that hard to resist. Not good for you, but bacon does make everything better, doesn't it!

ON that note:

E - 1,300 calories for the day -- ate pretty well.

I - Did have a taste of most everything except mashed potatoes and biscuits. TRIGGER ALERT on those.

G - Focused on visiting w/family. And since I was serving, got plenty of exercise, so the brain wasn't focused on E-A-T!

H - Had 10 glasses of water. Did it!

T - Will continue to update. It is helpful for me. Did well with all the food prep (no tasting in vast quantities!) and honestly, after making all the food, I wasn't all that hungry! Not a bad side affect of mass quantity cooking.
