Happy Thanksgiving! I Am Grateful

Thursday, November 22, 2012

I am grateful that I have the husband I do. His snoring was really bad last night and I ended up going to the spare bedroom. He was very sorry and upset, but I'm doing dinner here today and needed at least some sleep! Still, he is doing alot of the cooking; he set the table; he helps in so many ways that many men would not and do not. He adores me and he spoils me. That is why I worry so much with his weight and his snoring. There really is no other man like him.

I am grateful that all 4 of our parents are alive to have dinner with us today. My mom and his mom are both in poor health, but they are alive. They are very different. One will spend dinner complaining how bad she feels, how tired she is because SHE insisted on baking a pie and doing her dressing.... One will barely have her breath and will be thankful for me still being alive and her still being alive and happy her husband takes care of her even if he does get on her nerves with his perfectionism! Those of you who follow my blogs know who is who! I am happy to have them all here this Thanksgiving!

Today's menu.... Baked turkey breast that is smelling so good right now; sweet potato and apple bake; carmelized brussel sprouts (Thanks SP), mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, green bean casserole, turnip greens, cornbread stuffing muffins filled with veggies, regular stuffing, cornbread and I hope that is all! Someone's mother insisted on some of this. Oh, we are also having ham since my dad does not eat turkey since he was in the army over 47 years ago! We also have sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie. I'll be loading up on the veggies and I lightened up the cornbread stuffing and stuffed it full of celery, onion, green peppers and water chestnuts. I'm lightening up the mashed potatoes with skim milk. I'm lightening up the green bean casserole with low fat, low sodium cream of mushroom soup and not adding anything to it. The apples and sweet potatoes will be baked in a butter flavored Pam sprayed dish and that is it. Some things need no extra flavors. OMG! That turkey smells so good! I am grateful that my husband and I both have jobs and can afford to over eat! We shouldn't, but we can. We can also afford to buy healthier foods and cook with less fat and etc. I am grateful that even though my husband has to work more than the average person that his boss is good to him and pays him for the extra work. I am grateful that despite being totally blind I have 2 jobs that pay. I wouldn't want to work FT now that I like to exercise so much!

I am grateful our new room is done and we can put our tree up in it for Christmas. I'm grateful that when people ask what I want or need for Christmas and I can tell them nothing. I really do not need or necessarily want anything at all.

I am grateful we have a home to which we can invite our families and seat everyone. I am grateful for music. I am grateful for all my friends. I am so grateful for my Spark friends who cheer me on, lift me up and hold me when I need it! I am grateful I am able to move.... I did 180 pushups yesterday. I did them in sets of 10 or 20 and did 100 real pushups, 40 modified pushups and 40 wall pushups.... I am grateful that the modified and wall pushups seemed so easy to me! I am grateful to Spark People for the lifestyle changes that have helped me make such an achievement and so many other fitness achievements over the past 4.5 years! When I first joined SP I joined a team called "I Hate Exercise" and am so grateful I don't need or even want that team any more! I am grateful for the prayers my Spark friends, especially Missy and Linda say for me and my loved ones each day. I am grateful for the people who reached their goals and inspire me to do the same! I am grateful for the technology that allows me to be part of SP in spite of being blind. Yes, for me, being blind sucks, but I am grateful that is the only complication of diabetes I must deal with! I am otherwise helthy and ain't that a kick in the pants? Now I need to go dance around my kitchen as I put the finishing touches on my creations! Happy Thanksgiving! Be grateful for all the good in your life and deal with the bad! You can you know.... Thanks Spark Friends; Thanks Spark Guy; Thanks Coach Nicole for making videoes a blind person can follow; Thanks Spark Staff for all the good advice and info; Thanks Spark People for simply being here for all of us!! Thanks! Give thanks!

A beautiful blog on this thankful day. It is so wonderful that you still have all your parents still with you, even if things are not always how you want them to be. My husband and I don't have any of our parents anymore, lost the last one (his Mom) last year.
It made me hungry just reading your blog. I wish I was a good cook like you. Just the two of us, so we ate out, but I did make his pumpkin pie.
Enjoy your day, and all that you are thankful for. God Bless.
