Will be looking for pies today.

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

So I have the big 24 pound turkey soaking in a cool water bath today to thaw. So after walking the dogs today and doing bowflex, I will go out and look for pies or something to have for desert tomorrow. I have made pies before but my DH said not to bother as he says he doesn't want a lot of pie left overs. So that is a good thing. I really don't care at all about the desert. Since I got off of sugar, I don't crave it anymore so no big deal for me. I think I will also cook two of my side dishes today and have them so all I have to do is warm in the microwave. I think the yam casserole and the corn pudding will both be fine if I make them a day ahead. I am just worried about having enough oven space tomorrow with the big bird taking up the whole oven. I know we will have plenty of food. Never worried about that.
Hope all my sparks buddies that celebrate Thanksgiving are prepared for the big day.
I am giving thanks this year that we are healthy and happy even though we are going through the stress with the neighbors and the bogus law suit.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Sallie

It sounds like you have a wonderful day. When it comes to Turkey, the bigger the better in my world.

I just made a gingered pear pie for my family. It is like an apple pie, but you use Concorde or Anjou pears and add chopped crystallized ginger root. My in-laws request it every year. But it is an expensive and labor-intensive pie to make. I guess I resent it because I never get to eat any!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our local market had 12" pumpkin pies (from Costco?) for 109 pesos and frozen turkey for 67 pesos/kg The guy in front of me paid 1000 pesos for 2 turkeys (about 17 pounds each)..
Shopping for gringo food in Mexico can be expensive :)
