Last Saturday night I went to a jewelry party at a friend's house. It was a nice girls night out, except for one thing. Somehow I got roped into doing a Zumba class for Tuesday night. One of my casual friends who I know mostly from the pick up line at school is the Zumba instructor, and she teaches a class sponsored by the Parks and Rec. A couple of my good friends there take this class and insisted that me and one other friend should try the class, blah blah, blah, rah, rah, rah!
I have been dreading going to this class since Saturday. I have been doing cardio videos through Sparkpeople, and have gotten up to 30 minutes every other day. I sweat in the privacy of my own home and no one can see my 2 left feet. And I do mean sweat! My one friend was texting or emailing daily about how she "can't wait" until I do this class. I was going to be facing major embarrassment and complete humiliation. I was going to hate it and I would never get through an hour.
And tonight was the night. Cynthia even picked me up. No getting out of this one because suddenly I had a flat tire. I dressed in my workout clothes, packed my towel and water and away we went. There was nothing intimidating about the scene... we were in the cafeteria of a middle school. I looked around and not a single mirror anywhere. Hmmm, maybe this will be ok. People started trickling in. All shapes and sizes and a variety of ages. Gee, could it be that I can actually do this? Lots of friendly greetings and words of welcome followed. Just go at your own pace, no need to kill yourself... just HAVE FUN! And boy did I HAVE FUN!!!
Not only did I get through an hour, I got through an hour and 20 minutes of Zumba!! I had a blast exercising at a DANCE PARTY!! I am so proud of myself. And I actually did not have 2 left feet! :-) I got me some rhythm left in these old bones. Yay for me!!! I can't wait until the next class!
I am very grateful to my friends for pushing me into this. It was a blast and a major breakthrough for me. I came home, had dinner and for the first time in a long time my after dinner sugars were well within the normal range! Burned the sugar right off tonight!
