"You will never do 'girly' push ups again...."

I admit it - I never really liked pushups before- maybe because I struggled with them. When I was going to my old gym, I could do them on my knees, but never the "real ones". In fact, I was never anywhere close to the real ones! I would start at the top and drop like a sack of moldy potatoes to the ground!

But they are getting better and growing on me. I still have to use the bands for assistance, but as time goes on, I use less and less band support and can crank out more and more of them before my arms give out.

Last night, part of the Crossfit work out was a 4 minute AMRAP of 5 deadlifts at 60% of max and 7 pushups. I was setting up my bands so I could just slide right in and out, and coach asked, since the workout was quick, could I get in and out easily - if need be, do them on my knees. The first thought that popped into my head (while he may not have remembered, I did) was one of the first on ramp sessions I had, he had asked about pushups. I told him I could only do them on my knees. He started setting up the bands and said "Let me show you how this works. You will never have to do 'girly' push ups again."

And by god I wasn't going to do them now! I was determined to slide in and out of those bands as quick as I could and that I was going to bang out those push ups as quick as I could. Your mindset is a wonderful thing - I slid in and out of those bands like butter, and those push ups were as smooth and easy as I have ever imagined.

It is true - I will never do 'girly' push ups again!

    I never heard them called "girlie" push ups before--and I can't do them OR the "real" ones. Torn rotator cuffs spoiled that for me... STILL. Plus, I got sick this summer and had to start over, so I'm doing WALL push ups for now--and even with THOSE, my arms are shaking after about six of them! Of course, I'm doing a series of internal and external shoulder rotations, plus bicep and tricep exercises, plus wall slides, BEFORE I get to the push ups! wall... LOL
