I can't do rigid

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

So, last time around I was very strict with sticking to my food plans. But I always ended up feeling crummy that I couldn't be more flexible. I need to find a way to work around that to make my weight control plan long term.

Last night my plan was to try a green smoothie for dinner. That plan died when I got home to find hubby cooking a meal. Since that is VERY rare, I had to take full advantage. He made a simple chicken dish with onions and red wine. and we had a little home made rye bread on the side.

AND this morning I got up and made that green smoothie. I used a bannana, Chobani blueberry, low fat milk, and several very large leaves of lettuce. The result was about 3 cups of pretty good tasting smoothie. The lettuce texture made me want to chew, not just drink. So it took me about 3 hours to get through the whole thing. It was surprisingly filling and satisfying. But I learned I need to wash the lettuce even more agressively next time. There were a few bites that included a grain of sand. Yuck!

Then I packed the left over chicken for lunch. But just before lunch I was invited out to eat with co-workers. So I ditched the pre-packed lunch and will eat it for dinner. All the calories and nutrition are counted for the planned lunch, so I just found something on the lunch menu that fit into the remaining space.

Hubby had plans to go out with his dad for an early dinner, and I don't plan on joining them for food.

Tonight I have to prepare to brine the turkey and make a few pumpkin pies. I can't believe Thanksgiving is just two days away!!!

Current thoughts on smoothies:
Overall I really liked it and will make them more often when we have many heads of lettuce to get rid of from our CSA. And I would like to try another one without the dairy. I'm still thinking over a three day challenge option. But I know right now I just need to keep my focus on remembering my good habits. The last thing I need right now is a bad exerprience with healthy food.
