Cruise Blog #1: Fun in the Sun

So we had a great time down in the Carribean. The ship was great and we picked some great excursions.

We got down to Miami Beach a couple of days early. It was kind of like a little vacation before the vacation. It made things much more relaxed. Our hotel was right on the beach.

We went on a bus tour around Miami Beach and the city. It was interesting and we learned a lot of facts about the city.

On Saturday we boarded the ship. It was huge...the biggest one that Norweigen has. Our room was right next to the Spa and gym. We just relaxed that night.

The next two days were spent at sea. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. The was cool and very windy both days and Monday it rained. So there was no sitting out by the pool. That was ok though and there was plenty to do. If you can't find something to do on a cruise then there's something wrong with you. Because we had Spa rooms we had access to the thermal spa. They have these great lounge chair that are made of stone tiles that are heated. It's so relaxing. They also had a regular hot tub and a pool with several different stations...a super jet station, a section like a hot tub that you can lie down, and hot water pouring down on you. Love it.

On Sunday night was went to a Cirque de Solei show. It was a dinner show. Everyone sat in a circle with the show going on in the middle. Those people are amazing. So flexible and athletic. Just incredible. Then on Monday we went to a Blue Man Group show. We had seen them years ago in Boston. It is such a fun show. We had a great time.

Tuesday was our first stop: St. Marten. We did a Sea Tek excursion. This is when you wear a diving helmet over your head and they pump oxygen into it. As long as you don't lean too far forward or backward water doesn't come in. They bring you to the bottom and there is a track that you walk around on the bottom of the sea. It was really cool. At one point they even gave us food and the fish ate it right out of our hands. It was surreal and we really enjoyed it.

The next day was St. Thomas. Here we went to the beach for a couple of hours and then shopping.

The next day was at sea. The weather was much nicer so we spent some time around the pool. We went to a comedy show and Dennis spent a little time in the casino.

The final full day was in the Bahamas. This was the really exciting day. We went swimming with the dolphins. It was such an incredible experience. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures as we couldn't take any since we were in the water. We do have some nice prints that were taken by the staff but we didn't buy the digital ones. We spend about 45 minutes in the water with the dolphins. These are dolphins that were either born in captivity or rescued. It's amazing being so close to them. At the end they had you swim out and float on your stomach with your legs locked. Two dolphins come up behind you and push you forward fast. It was crazy fun.

The last day we left the cruise early but did a final excursion in the Everglades on one of those air boats. We saw lots of alligators. Really cool as well. They said that alligators really aren't aggressive like crocodiles are. 90% of the time they sleep.

After that it was home again. Sigh!! 30 degrees here...quite a shock to the system!!

What a wonderful blog, Elise! I am so envious of your Sea Tek excursion. I have been on submarine trips and I love looking about under water. To actually walk on the bottom of the sea would be great! I'm also jealous of your swimming with the dolphins. They are such beautiful creatures.

Not so envious of the alligators though! They look a bit scary to me.

Anyway, it all sounds like a fantastic cruise. Glad you had a great time.
