Holiday Minefield

I know the holiday season is very quickly approaching; Thanksgiving is on Thursday, and this seems to set off a storm of Holiday parties and exchanges.

My goals are these: not to overeat at parties, and not to tell myself "it's okay not to track these foods because it's the holidays!"

I think my biggest problem during this time is my mentality. I would always say to myself: "This is vacation!", "It's a holiday, you don't need to track this!", "You deserve this delicious food."

And instead of using moderation for the foods I like, I gorge myself. I eat 2 or 3 pieces of the cake, help myself to 2 or 3 servings of Chicken Tikka Masala (Indian food is big for me), and snack on the peppermint bark and cheese spreads.

This is clearly not okay. When a week of this behavior occurs, it sets me back a good 5-10 pounds... because exercising during these times is not a priority either.

This year, I aim to chew gum during appetizer hour, bring or supply fruit to serve with the more decadent deserts, and eat mindfully. I think not drinking much alcohol will help with this as well, as I tend to get the "drunchies" when I imbibe excessively.

I'm completely open to any suggestions, tips, extra goals, anything to help get through this minefield made of cookies and savory treats.
