School and Thanksgiving

Monday, November 19, 2012

Today was our volunteer-at-school day, and we got an update on the number/percentage of students getting free or reduced fee lunches. Last year (at this elementary school) there were approximately 80% of the students getting free lunch. This year it's down to 60%. While that's lot better, that's still around 180 students in great need. The possibility is that some of the 20% difference has moved up to the Intermediate school. The economy certainly hasn't turned around.

Given Thanksgiving holiday and our stitching group needing some time to knit/crochet, we'll collect hats/scarves/gloves in early December and take them to the school. At least some students won't be quite as cold this winter.

On a personal note, I'm making minute headway in my quest to lose fat/pounds and be able to wear small clothes again. emoticon Slow-but-sure, I guess. I didn't gain all this fat over night, and obviously it's going to take a few years for it to go away. As long as it does go, and stay away, I guess I can't begrudge its lack of speed. emoticon

We in the USA are coming up on our Thanksgiving Day (Thursday). I have so much to be thankful for, and I am learning to shut my mouth about what I don't have. If you have a sheltered place to sleep, a bed/cot to sleep on, a cover to sleep under, food to put in your stomach, you join me in being well off compared to so many, even in the USA. Let's be thankful for what we DO have.

And let's be thankful for weight loss, no matter how little at a time, as long as the scale moves down and clothes feel looser. -- Lou

I am thankful every day for all the many blessings I have been given. Even more, I am thankful my granddaughter is improving.
Sounds like you are going to be busy for the next couple weeks stitching away. What a nice thing you are doing for those kids.

Hugs
Pat

It's important to be grateful for the blessings we DO have. I try to remember that in the midst of my daily dramas.
