New Breakfast

So I'm supposed to revisit my breakfasts in my blog post today. My usual breakfast right now is half a cinnamon raisin bagel with a tbsp of peanut butter, my multi-vitamins, coffee and creamer.

I could probably switch to a whole-grain bagel and be better off for it, but I'm not sure how much else I could change about breakfast. My breakfast was one of the only meals I didn't have to revamp when I started this process and I don't even have to change it to keep to the new dietary restrictions my doctor recommended.

Yes, my doctor wants me to cut out dairy. This is going to be SO hard for me because I really love milk and yogurt and cheese. We're going to look at soy or almond milk for our cookies and cereal, but a lot of the problem is the price of the milk alternatives. Goat's milk and goat cheese is expensive. So is Soy milk. Sure, milk is pretty expensive right now, too, but the alternatives are even more so.

This also means killing my pizza entirely. I looked Ian squarely in the eye and said, "No." We'll cut back, maybe only once or twice a month, but I'm not giving up my pizza. I love making it and eating it too much to not have it at all. I think we're going to take this kind of a perspective on the dairy at large, too: we'll reduce but not eliminate. It's rather drastic and neither of us are 100% convinced it'll fix the problems I've been having. We'll try it for a while and see how I feel.

Has anyone else been advised to drop dairy for their health?
