A Glimpse Into My Corner of the World

Monday, November 19, 2012

A dear SPARKling asked me the other day how I am/doing (I realize I've been inordinately quiet)... and I felt immediately overwhelmed as I realized there was no simple response.... I'm still sorting out all I'd like to say (so much... yet ironically when my heart gets overwhelmed, I have trouble finding the words and expressing them in the spirit I intend).

To those checking in on me (you all know who you are), THANK YOU! Your faithfulness (and the PRAYERS!) means everything, and despite the sorrows and concerns on my heart, I am genuinely FINE. I am still very much invested, moving forward, making steady headway on my journey to wellness. I ask you to forgive me my silence and bear with me as sort out my muddled heart. I am lurking in the background... cheering you on, holding you up in prayer, dropping the odd comment here and there (and I haven't forgotten that I owe some of you detailed responses to specific questions).

On a more specific front, WE are being SLAMMED with SNOW... LOTS and lots of snow... unceremoniously, without warning, relentlessly... and with a vengeance... wet, heavy, abundant... and the weather is truly insane... large dumps of snow with extreme cold for this time of year (-15 C) and the next day nearing plus temperatures so everything is ICY.

Yet, we are not alone and abandoned... the Snow Fairy has come to help us in our hour of need, and of course I knew I must share the blessing with all of my Spark friends with similar needs.

So, you have been chosen to receive the blessing of the Snow Fairy. The Snow Fairy can bring you good fortune for one whole year. May YOU be blessed by his good deeds.....

...And NO, THIS is not my darling husband... he's been making me swear to tell people that. I can't imagine why he would think they would see any resemblance.... This snow fairy is so much shorter than my husband (and with DH's forty pound loss over the last six months, all other vague resemblance has ceased to exist, LOL)!

I simply COULD NOT resist sharing this again... I've been sniggering over this image for weeks now... it still cracks me up... and it DOES make shovelling snow so much easier!!!

On the off-chance that at this point you're completely offended by the contents, I ask you to please discuss this with me before you report it to the Spark powers that be. Truly, I find this uproariously funny, but if I've offended anyone, I will remove it - no harm, no foul!

So despite the help of the wonderful snow fairy, mostly I've been shovelling snow for the last three weeks, LOL! We weren't even able to attend Remembrance day services because we had to dig ourselves out first. Snowing every second day (at least 6-10 inches every time) has me shovelling three hours at a stretch (we live on a corner lot and have a strongly developed sense of civic responsibility). The thing I rejoice in most (as does my Mr.... he doesn't have to do it in the dark when he gets home each day after it's been packed down solid) is that I CAN shovel. Last winter, and for the two previous winters, I couldn't even lift the shovel, let alone move the snow. Honestly, every shovelful I throw is an exercise in gratitude and a celebration of my own well-being... never mind what it is doing for my shoulders, back and glutes!

Feeling the slight inconvenience of this weather, and yet experiencing the joy in it (sledding, snowmen, snow angels, muffled sound and being encased in nature's loveliest blanket), I am reminded and sobered by all with which the rest of the world struggles.

Along with the rest of the world, you are all in my prayers in a special way today... that many of you are struggling under a variety of burdens isn't lost upon me, and I pray...

Lord, I just want to say THANK YOU, because this morning I woke up and knew where my child is... because this morning my home was still standing... because this morning I am not crying because my husband, my child, my brother or sister needs to be dug out from underneath a pile of concrete only to be buried... because this morning I was able to drink a glass of water... because this morning I was able to turn on the light... because this morning I was able to take a shower... because this morning I was not planning a funeral. Most of all, I thank you this morning because I still have life, and a voice to cry out for the people of the Middle East and those who found themselves in the path of Sandy, and for all others suffering and struggling in this world. Lord, I cry out to you... you who make the impossible possible, who turns darkness into light. I cry out that you give us all strength, that you give us peace that surpasses all understanding, that you open byways, hearts and circumstances so that help can come, that you provide doctors, nurses, food, water, and all that anyone needs in the blink of an eye. For all those who have lost family members give them peace, give them hope, and give them courage to continue to go on! Protect your children and shield them with your power. Give men and women hearts of courage to do what must be done, and to bear their burdens with grace. Finally Lord, put in our hearts an abiding and sustaining sense of gratitude for all that we do have. By the grace of that gratitude, move our hearts and hands to offer all we can in your name to ease the burdens of others. I pray all this in the name of Jesus!!! We here are truly blessed!!!!! Amen.

Oh my.....that is so NOT what I meant by the Snow Fairy, Ramona! LOL!!!!!!! So funny! I had to drag him onto my desktop....now I'm prepared to giggle over the snow that is sure to come to us here in Scotland sometime soon.

The situation in Gaza is just horrific. Not much else to say about that here....

Glad you've given us a few more of your thoughtful blogs. We miss you and definitely notice when you go quiet!

Your prayers are truely moving. I hope you are OK. As you know, I've been missing action for quite al ong time so am completely out of the loop but hope to catch up on you soon. At least your snow fairy left me with a smile on my face. It's hard to imagine all that snow when I'm still walking around without a coat on. It's my daughters dream to see snow...it has never snowed in this corner of Spain. Love and smiles to you my friend.

    LOL on the snow fairy.

Also make sure you are slow and steady with the weights. I don't want to hear you pulled anything that is going to knock you back in time and loose all the progress you have done so far.

We all have a lot to be thankful for. Living in the Deep South, it's hard to fathom dealing with all that snow. We barely wear winter coats. Corderoy is a fabric with which my children are not familiar. They don't have cozy sweaters. My son wears short pants almost every day of the year. He's wearing more pants lately for fashion's sake.
