O Happy Day! Find your Bliss

If we all look at our weight issues, I think it would be fair to say that our outward appearance and obesity, often (not always) is a reflection of inner turmoil of some sort.
Somehow, somewhere- we became unhappy with ourselves or our life. It is not a natural thing to overeat. Our bodies are not made to naturally want, crave, overindulge in copious amounts of food.
However, add in the emotional aspect of the human condition and our tendency to want to bury our feelings, our hurts, our failures and self medicate with things like alcohol - drugs- sex and we think ... I don't do those things! No, you're right- we've chosen to self medicate with food instead. We write it off as the "acceptable" vice.
One of my favourite quotes regarding weightloss is "It's not about what you're eating, it's about what is eating you" -- truer words have never been spoken.
So let's stop focusing on what we are not - and start living lives that fulfill us!
We say we can't afford those dance lessons, or the gym membership - but when was the last time you tallied your monthly bill for eating out? I bet there is more in your disposable income than you realized if you stopped eating at these places that are sabotaging your weightloss goals.
My lovelies, it's time to find what makes you happy. It's time to find your BLISS! Do you love art? Do you love nature? Do you love travel? Music perhaps? Church? Family? What (OTHER THAN FOOD) makes you happy, healthy, fulfilled, joyful, at peace? Seek it out, make time for it - and watch how your spirit will respond!
For me? I love the latin-american culture. I love everything about it, the food - the music- the dancing. It makes me happy. I love how warm and affectionate latino people are and it resonates with my spirit more than my own naturally-born culture. I lived in Venezuela for half a year when I was younger and it was the happiest time of my life ...and the skinniest!
For the longest time I've been unhappy- feeling dissatisfied with my life because I cannot travel as I would want to. But I found a solution!!!!! I've connected with a group of latinos in my own city. A wonderful bunch of immigrants that get together on a regular basis to sing, dance, and cook together.
Think outside the box! I may not be able to travel, but one night with a bunch of newly made friends made me feel like I was in Mexico, Brazil, and Nicaragua all at once. The music soothed my spirit, the company made my heart glad, and the food was a healthy mix of vegetables and lean meats and wonderful seasonings. It was my first time meeting this group and by the end of the night they were calling me family. I went home with such a feeling of happiness that I slept better than I have in months.
Find your bliss- the key to your weightloss is by unlocking the greatness that you already have inside you! Love yourself enough to find out what that is and do it! Paint, read, dance, laugh, live, love, travel, believe....... and then eating will be the last thing on your list.
Take heart my dears, there are brighter days ahead!
