How should Christians relate to governments, and especially those who oppose Christianity? Paul said Christians are to be subject to government officials, to be obedient and to be ready to do whatever is good. TItus 3:1-2 Submission involves accepting advise and counsel and if necessary yielding to another persons authority and commands. It is difficult to differentiate between submission and obedience The two words together reinforce the importance of doing what is expected of a good citizen.
Paul did add balance to these instructions when he told Titus to remind believers "to be ready to do whatever is good" He implied that at times all Christians " must obey god rather than men." Acts 5:29 We are to do good and not evil.
All of us as Christians must examine ourselves on our attitude toward governing authorities, whether these officials are Christians or not.
