Successful Weekend: Half Marathon and Shoe Quest!

Monday, November 19, 2012

Yay, took back 2 pairs of hiking shoes and found a pair I am keeping. Wore them already so I am committed. We will hike some trails in them this week so I'll know for sure if they are going to work. They are a brand I never heard of: Scarpa.

The half marathon in Tulsa was really AWESOME! We had never been to Tulsa but it is a beautiful city. We love races; they take you through some of the most beautiful parts of town so they're always fun. Saw some incredible neighborhoods of homes built around the turn of the century, our favorite time period for homes! They have a wonderful park along the Arkansas River and seem to be a very ecological-minded city. I was impressed with their parks, tree-planting program, and recycling efforts.

The course was a lot of up-and-down; my fitbit showed I "climbed" 50 floors! That's a lot! We jogged a lot of it and beat our best time of 3 hours, 19 minutes, 37 seconds, which was in 2001 when I was 11 years younger and probably 15 pounds lighter! So it was a major success. We finished in 3 hours, 11 minutes, 29 seconds: a pace of 14:37/mile.

TC is big with the camera and isn't afraid to ask people to take our picture! Here we are before the race:

And I just have to shake my head and roll my eyes -- but he LOVES taking pictures of the girls! Sometimes he doesn't ask but takes pictures of them from behind -- I keep telling him he's going to get decked by a boyfriend one of these days!!!

After the race -- not looking too bad!

And, our medals: LOVE collecting the bling!!

Today we have to pack the trailer and tomorrow we are off to a state park for Thanksgiving and some serious hiking. Hope to get out both in the mornings and afternoons. Hope my new hiking shoes pan out!

Inspired by your travels and marathons...especially that you are staying fit as a couple. My hubby longs to hike the AT, too...and I want to be fit enough to be his companion. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on beating your time in the race! I wish I could get my BF to be more active like your hubby is! My BF's idea of activity is walking to the kitchen to get junk food! LOL

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I can't wait to see the pics of your hikes!
