~ My workouts today ~

Boy what a day. A great day. Woke up this morning to Shaun T. & Hip Hop Abs Cardio ... I love this workout. Yesterday I did Cardio Sculpt, love this one too!

... I practiced his tilt, tuck & tighten throughout the workout and I do feel it somewhat in my abs. Truth be told though, any cardio workout can probably be a great ab workout if one makes a conscious effort to hold the abs/core in... however, I don't know if you would have as much fun! emoticon ... The music is great emoticon hip hop at its best, great selections. I have to admit that Shaun had to grow on me because his voice annoys me, maybe it's the way he pronounces his words, like not really saying tighten, more like "tighen" ... I don't know, maybe it's me, but at any rate, I enjoy his workouts and as a person he is engaging and he is good at what he does. All workouts include appropriate warm-ups and cool downs. I give it

emoticon PM Workout: Iron Core Kettlebell Starring Sarah Lurie (2010)

I did Volume 1 which covers:

- single arm swings
- double arm swings
- suitcase deadlift
- deck squat {... substituted squats for this one}
- clean & press
- tactical lunge
- Turkish get up {... can't do this one, just did squats}

I love the format of this workout. Laurie introduces you to each move and then moves on to the actual workout. Warmup then 3 separate circuits, repeating all of the exercises above. After each exercise she rests for 30 seconds, then on to the next one. Repeating this sequence until all of the exercises have been performed. First circuit completed, a 2 minute , then on to the 2nd circuit.

I could only get through 2 circuits using a 5lb and 8lb KB... My HR increased with this workout, but the workout was very doable especially with the rests added to it. This is a wonderful KB workout to grow with, I have 3 more workouts to learn. I will try adding a core only workout next time. The thing I noticed about KB workouts is that music is not a focal point, the movements are not set to the beat of a song. If I were lifting conventional weights, this would be a problem for me because I love my workouts synced to music, but somehow I don't mind that these KB workouts aren't. I give this workout
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon out of 4! I Highly recommend this workout, especially if you are a beginner and need instruction on how to execute the movements correctly. Keep in mind too that KB exercises are a lot different then that of conventional weight training.

    I love Shaun T. He's always my go to workout when I just don't feel like working out. You are really tempting me with that kettlebell workout. I don't know if I want to spend the money on an actual kettlebell, given all the equipment I already have. Is it easy substituting weighs do you think?

    emoticon Fantastic!! Way to vary up your exercise!
    I love boxercise for the very reason that if you can't control your abs, you will not only have bad form, you could injure your back! Like our instructor loves to say, 'its all abs all the time baby'!! And yet she still hits the floor after each workout for a tough abs segment anyway :P.
    I am not all that into hip hop, love the Latin inspired Zumba workouts more although they do include some hip hop numbers at times. I agree its tough to want to work out unless you have a good driving beat to motivate you. I need fast, pulse pounding music to listen to on my elliptical otherwise I will slow down lol.
