Day 5 Positives and Negatives

Sunday, November 18, 2012

Well here I am at the end of the 5th day on SparkPeople. Today was a series of ups and downs for me.

The day started out rough because I (unwisely) had a cup of strong coffee late last night. I should admit that I am mostly a tea drinker, so I have no built up immunity to the caffeine that is in coffee. It was not a good idea. I was wide awake all night! I finally fell asleep at 8am this morning for three hours.... ugh. Not a fun night.

Then when weighed myself to update the weekly weight measurement, it had gone up a pound. :(

But, I know that I've been watching what I eat more closely now, so I think it is just a temporary fluctuation.

So those were my negatives for the morning, but it was followed by some pretty postitive aspects for my day.

It was an amazingly beautiful day outside today, so I went for a walk and enjoyed the crisp fall air and the wonderful sunshine! I cut down on my time for a 3 mile walk by 10 minute, too! It was a very good walk.

And then I decided to try one of the cardio workout videos. I chose the 12 minute Low Impact Cardio video and watched it through one time to get an idea of what I was going to be doing. I wasn't sure that I could finish the whole video, but I decided I would go ahead and try it. Even if I couldn't do the whole thing today, eventually I would be able to.

I completed it! emoticon I was very sweaty by the end of it, but I was proud of myself.

And I had a good amount of energy until about 4pm, I think it was a result of exercising more the past 5 days. It's already working! Woohoo!

And I stayed within my nutrition guidelines today, with the exception of protein. I need to get a bit more protein in my diet. Any reccommendations? I know dairy and eggs and meat, but what is your protein of choice most days?

I've muddled through the last couple of hours, and am feeling very tired by now. So I thought I would just write up this and then head to sleep.

So goodnight! Thanks for all the help today!

Your weight will vary. What you need to track is the trendline over time. That will give you a true picture of what's happening. So don't ever get discouraged if the scale goes up or remains stagnant for a while, it happens to everybody.

Keep going!!

It sounds to me as though you are doing well overall. I am a tea drinker rather than a coffee drinker myself. I always seem to end up regretting it when I have coffee, and it always hits me hard, like you. Protein...I probably get too much protein. I like to have at least a few nuts every day, and I usually have a bit of cheese, too. But I like meat, mostly chicken. I am not that fond of beans, but if you prefer to eat less meat, that is a good way to add protein. I do try to avoid soy, because it is one of the most genetically engineered crops, but it is very high in protein also. Good job on the workout - keep it up!
