Super and sad Sunday
Sunday, November 18, 2012
I had a great day in the Lord. My friend and I sang a song "Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart" today, Our minister and his wife were back and the service was joyful, We had a visiting minister.
He is a former missionary to Mexico and Brazil and he shared some stats with us of which I was unaware. There are 11,000 peoples in the world (people meaning groups joined by language and culture.) Out of the 11,000 peoples 3162 have never seen a missionary or heard the Word of God. Imagine that. I always think everyone has had the opportunity but it ain't necessarily so.
He also challenged us with a phrase from an British preacher N.T. Wright "What would this look like if God were running the show?" We get so caught up in business as usual in church that we forget that God make things new every day and that He wants none to perish.
So what was sad about today. We had our Thanksgiving potluck tonight and I never even thought about what I was eating. I really don't like the guilt I feel when I don't make good choices but.... I know I can make new choices for the rest of the day and on from there. Same with Sparkpeople. My slate is clean tomorrow and I can enter better choices.
And with God, His mercies are new every morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV)
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
God bless us with the willingness to get back up and start over again.
