Clare House 5K

Sunday, November 18, 2012

Well it's been a long day and I still have math homework ahead of me, but I have to get on here and tell the crazy story! ;)

Today I ran the Clare House 5K, and it was a fun run for a great cause, the local food pantry. I got there at 12:30, expecting to register and have time to warm up before the 1pm race. Except registration was at 1pm, and the race was at 2pm! I got the wrong info online!!! Luckily, a couple of my friends showed up and we were able to hang out until it was actually time to run!

Anyway, that put the whole rest of my day back an hour, and my plan was to ride my bike after the 5K, about 15-20 miles. Yeah, I miscalculated that too! Lexington is 13 miles away, not 10. So I got 26 miles, not 15-20, and the last 4 miles were in the dark without a bike headlight because I ran out of daylight and I haven't had the money for a bike light! Also, once the sun went down, so did the temp, and I was soaked with sweat by then, so by the time I got to my car I couldn't feel most of myself. Fortunately, my foot was too cold to feel anything at that point because it was on fire and had been cramping for about the 2nd half of the ride!

So yeah, a whole bunch of poor planning on my part, but I did my 5K in about 48 minutes, which is super slow but I don't care because I have tendonitis in the arch of my foot and a fake ACL in my left knee, so it's pretty much a miracle I can run at all, and I got 26 miles on my bike because I'm an idiot. But the important thing is that I'm willing to admit when I'm an idiot!!!

Anyway!!! I'm home, Dan made dinner, which was good (chicken with green peppers, okra, and French bread), and I got a scalding hot shower and got the feeling back in my fingers, and right now I'm icing my foot and hanging out in my fluffy penguin pajamas. Totally don't want to do math homework but I'm gonna suck it up and do it when I'm done posting! Oh, and here is a picture of me and my friends at the 5K:

Wow! The ride home in the dark must have been terrifying! Way to go on burning some serious calories though.

Hey, the best of us miscalculate from time to time... So glad you got back home in one piece. You had quite a workout today... Basically a brick workout... You totally killed the calories today... Enjoy the fuzzy PJ's and the down time.. You earned it :)
