Crocheted Headbands

Sunday, November 18, 2012

The shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child were collected last week to send to the distribution centers, but I have already started on next year's boxes. I have been using up some of my small amounts of left over yarn to make crocheted headbands for the girls boxes. They are quick and easy to make and I've been working on them while I watch TV at night.

Shari, I haven't been on here in a while. It is good to read your up date and see your strong, sincere and inspiring spirit doing the good you have always done. I have had a rough year. An ankle sprain in Dec. of 2011, the surgery on the same in April, hip issues in August, finally walking in Sept. and then found another tumor in Oct. Finally, I think I can say...after recurrence from breast and thyroid cancer this time...it is gone. Or is it? You telling your day-to-day story does so much to strengthen me and give me courage. I especially like that you give so much of your time and energy to help others. But just as important is your day to day self care and routines. Thank you for sharing and caring enough to tell others how to keep doing what you do. It makes a difference!! to others who face illness each day!!

They are so sweet, Shari, and sure to delight the little girls who receive them! It is so generous of you to help others like this - and it's one of many ways you inspire so many of us.

Hugs and blessings to you, Nattacia

Those are cute. Do you have a pattern for those? I would love to make a couple for my grandniece Katelynn. Her mommy puts those on her.

    Those are sweet.

I was thinking about you yesterday when I was watching my local Saturday morning news. They did a story about a local craft fair and a woman was featured who had this incredible idea for crochet-topped towels. BUT not like any I've ever seen (my mother has made these too). These are not attached to the towels permanently. She had a loop for the towel to hang from, then a covering that went over where the towel bends to hold it in place. So when you wash it, you can remove and wash just the towel part, leaving the yarn looking newer for much longer. And when the towel wears out you just use a new one. Here's what I'm talking about: http://www.crochetnmore.com/nosewto

That is such a nice thing to do. I run my own knitting charity and we are getting ready for the big Christmas scarf donation.
