It probably sounds very strange, but one of the really wonderful fitness achievements of the last 2 years has been learning to walk.
I am 59, and had not had an accident or stroke. I just read a Sparkpeople guide and a book by Lucy Knight, and realised that I did not know how to walk properly. At first I could not do it, but there was a day when I suddenly did a few steps correctly and found my whole body felt different.
It took a while before I corrected my walk permanently, but since I have learned I can do far more because the arthritic pain in my hips is greatly reduced and everything works better.
The change was demonstrated months later when I decided to wear heels, and discovered I couldn't walk in them because I no longer knew how to do it!
I am sure there are many people who would benefit from knowing this, so I hope others will give it a try.
