Exercise Excuses

I think the thing that happens with me is tht I put of my exercising until late in the day. If it's strength training, I go ahead a do it even if it's pretty late. If it's cardio, I may trade it for the next day's strength routine. I haven't fully missed working out for a day except for one day I was sick, since the start of August, but then I don't do very involved workouts.

I am trying to get myself up to an average of 25 minutes a day working out. I met my calories burned goal this week but not my minutes goal. So that's been somewhat of a challenge. I do want to work out earlier in the day when possible.

So maybe a good action plan for me is to workout before I have my afternoon snack. I never forget to eat that, somehow. The ideal would be working out in the morning but definitely before afternoon snack.

    You've got a plan that worth's a try. Each of us needs to find what works for us.

    I know that for me I have learned to go to a class or out to the gym because I find it easier to stick with a commitment outside the home. I schedule the time like any appointment and keep it like any other appointment. I prefer to go in the morning because otherwise I have more time to make up excuses which I have to battle off before get there. Let us know how you make out.

    Tina - I tend to get up early to do my workout before I do anything else. This gets it out of the way before I can even think of an excuse. It took me several months to get to this point. Getting up early isn't my favorite thing to do. But now, I rise, drink tea, get my workout clothes on, and get to it. All before the dog wakes up.

    Tricia...I prefer to workout early in the morning but unfortunately most days I can't! The later I work out...the less energy I have!! I get up at 4:15 am so I'm def. more productive in the morning. The great thing is...you know where you are and are working to figure it out! It's tricky but you are getting there!! Thanks for sharing!!

    It can be hard to find the right combination of time and exercise, gotta keep trying to make it click till you find what works for you. Maybe setting small, daily goals would be a good system till it becomes more habitual.

    Well you know what you want to do, so schedule to do it for a week and see how it works. You can't have your snack until you've completed 10 or 15 minutes of workout. Sounds like a plan!

    So you want to exercise early so you're sure to get it in and have no opportunities to have to make up excuses for not getting in a work out?

    If I got that right, then I notice that about myself also. If I miss a long walk first thing in the morning, then I have difficulty getting in my minimum 30 minutes (my streak goal). I don't tend to make up excuses for myself, though. Probably because I still look at exercise as a chore instead of something I truly want to do. Workin on it!!

    not that this works for everyone but i found the best plan for me was going to group fitness classes. it was a wicked motivator and you can chose group strength or cardio classes or a combo of both.
