Ughh...torn tendon

Saturday, November 17, 2012

I hurt my ankle months ago, in July, and I've been going to doctors ever since. Last week I finally had an MRI and found out that I have a torn tendon and a torn ligament. I have spent the last 6 weeks in a walking cast boot and symptoms have improved, but I think the next step will probably be surgery. Surgery doesn't scare me, I'm up for anything that speeds up my recovery and gets me out of the boot sooner. I just find it really hard to stay on track with my nutrition when I can't get out and exercise that much.

Allowing myself to be depressed about my situation has lead to a lot of overeating and subsequent weight gain. I feel like it is time for me to switch my focus to all the other parts of my life that are whole and healthy.

This is the perfect time of year for me to adjust my attitude. One, I will be able to use this positive focus to keep myself on track nutritionally during a very difficult season. And two, I will increase my feelings of gratitude for the wonderful health and the many blessings I do enjoy.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my many Spark Friends!

I'm so sorry for your inability to exercise right now...I can so identify with how you could get depressed. I'm much better at exercise than I am at eating healthfully all the time. I recently had a tragedy and near death experience with my StepDad and it really threw me off. Everyday I was eating more and exercising less and all this as I was coming home from eight weeks of travel and had gained 5 pounds. So now I'm up 10, but I'm back to my hiking and tracking my food again.

You have a very positive attitude that inspires me. Good luck with getting your ankle working again. Thanks for posting.
