November Goals

After coming off a not-so-good October and letting it slide into November, I wanted to take a minute to do a progress update and let everyone know I'm still in this. emoticon

I have been really working on my fitness minutes this month. This has been my weakness since Day 1 and I'm happy to report, I'm doing much, much better. For a geek like me, the tools make a huge difference. Earlier this month I purchased a fitbit and have had that sucker on constantly since it came. What a story it tells!!! As a programmer I sit and sit most of the day. I know this but the fitbit gave me this chart that shows my level of activity for the day. When you see a chart that shows you are sedentary 80% of your day, you kind of get a shock. I guess I thought I moved more than that even though I have a desk job. Well, surprise!!

This simple fact and tool are making me move more. I take a trek or two up the stairs to just get some movement in and have been researching standing desks. I think in my line of work, the standing desk is a HAVE TO not a SHOULD. Plus I do have a stability ball. That ball of fun is going to become my new chair.

Yes. I will still work on my cardio and strength training. But in actuality that is a small part of my day. I need to be more active throughout the day and have been working on ways to do so. Chances are I will be a desk jockey for the rest of my working career. So I need to make it a livable situation instead of one that sends me to an early grave.

Now I know that may seem dramatic but I don't think so. The number of health problems related to sitting, desk chairs and even computer use don't lie. I have a great job and career. Now it is time to be sure it doesn't kill me. ;)

December is fast approaching and I will be back to monthly goals and weekly updates. I miss doing it. I miss the accountability. And frankly, I just need to do it.

    Oh so glad to hear from you - I 've missed your posts!

And good for you for assessing your whole day - not just the brief time working out. I've been thinking of getting something different to sit on at work too - because I do sit a LOT.

Knew you had bad days and did not beat your self up over it just moved on emoticon
we will cross the finish who said we had to be in the top as long as we finish it not a contest it a personal journey to good health

  Grat Goals. You are doing a very good Job too. Keep It Up You Can Go It. Would like to know how You like your Fitbit and what model you brought. Im thinking about getting one too the latest Model that is water proof I think. Also the Stability Ball. Been thinking about getting one of them too.     Girl I hear you, I sit at a desk, looked at a treadmill desk the boss not to thrilled I thought it was great! The ball as a chair great tool! Your right starting in December the tracking will begin again! But with lots of fun attached! I know you can do this! would love to hear how you like your fitbit..thinking I need one for Christmas!

    Like your goals! My husband has something similar to the fitbit - bodybugg - and loves it.
I have a desk job too. What I do to remind myself I need to get up now and then is a little sign I hang right where I can see it that says "Death By Chair". A great motivator!
