Dr. Oz Detox - Day 1

I am trying the Dr. Oz 3 day detox this weekend. You drink a tea in the morning, 4 "shakes" makes fruits/veggies/fats/nuts, and then take a "detox bath" at night. I went out and bought all the ingredients last night and it was around $100 from the health food store (mostly organic).

My expectations are that it won't be too hard in terms of hunger or sugar withdrawal since these are already in my calorie range and I haven't been doing sugar. I will probably have caffeine withdrawal since I normally drink several cups of coffee a day. Also I worry that I just won't like the flavor and will miss the normalcy of cooking.

I started this morning with green tea, lemon and truvia. To be honest, I was not looking forward to the tea, definitely not like my normal weekend big-mug-of-coffee. I don't think I have had green tea before, or if I had, I didn't think liked it and I normally don't like lemon in water or tea. Well I was pleasantly surprised. The tea was mild and the lemon was tasty. It felt great on my sore throat. I can imaging having this every day.

About an hour later, I made the first drink. I have heard from another SP user that the morning was the best drink so I expected to be more like a normal smoothie (though with almond butter and spinach. I used frozen raspberries and also added some crushed ice to make it a little thicker. It was ok. It wasn't sweet like my normal smoothie, but definitely drink-able.

I will come back and edit this blog post when I try the other shakes.

I am drinking the lunch shake now. Based on some comments/reviews/my utter dislike of celery, I made some changes to the recipe. I added 1 full green apple (instead of 1/2), 1 cup of almond milk (instead of 1/2) and 1 stalk of celery (instead of 4). Like the breakfast shake, I added 1 cup of ice to make it thicker/ more like a smoothie. Even with only 1 stalk of celery, I can still taste it so I can only imagine what it would have been with 4. I added the extra almond milk (as other people suggested) because it was just too thick to leave it at 1/2 cup.

I like it! I was nervous about this one, it had received the worst reviews, but I don't mind it at all except for the celery undertones.

I have had 2 more cups of the green tea with lemon and truvia. I got very hungry around 9 am and it helped me wait until almost 12 to make my shake (while I am cleaning the house of course).

My husband returns in 2 hours!

Now I have tried all three drinks and i liked the dinner one the least, but it was fine, still drinkable. I can't believe I liked the lunch one the most, the one I was most worried about. I am probably going to have the breakfast one for my 4th shake (you repeat one of the other three for your fourth "meal"). I don't think I want to have blended celery on my stomach this late at night.

I was hungry again, I made the shake around 4:30. I don't know if I noted it earlier or not, but I peeled everything I could and stemmed the kale.

Looking forward to a bath tonight, esp. since i spent most of the day cleaning.

So glad that my blog inspired you! Good to hear that you like the lunch shake. Wanted to let you know that I did gain two pounds back this morning after one day off the program, but I stayed within my calorie intake today. Best of luck to you on this program. I cannot wait to hear about your results.

I do green smoothies once a day and just love them.
