Eight Pounds

Saturday, November 17, 2012

I'm updating this on December 12 out of my built in need for tidiness, not because I ever made any progress on the challenge.

Life is too hectic right now to focus very intensely on this goal. I'm doing OK maintaining where I've been and what I've been doing, but I think it might fall to the New Year to start in a fresh direction, not because I'm a fan of New Year's resolutions, but because it will be February before my job and personal life slow down enough for me to focus and make time for new routines!

I'll be posting a fresh blog in the next few days, hopefully, looking over where I'm at and where I want to go next.

My dear friend from Baltimore, BOSS61, has issued an interesting challenge, to lose 8 pounds in 6 weeks, at a rate of at least 1 pound per week.

While I don't think I can count on my body to cooperate in that neat a fashion - there will likely be at least one week, possibly two, when the scale will read 2-3 pounds heavier than the previous week, regardless of whether I've lost fat or not (curse you, Curse!) - I think I should be able to pull off the OVERALL loss goal. I know a HELLUVA lot more about my body than I did in the summer of 2011 when I started out and actually WAS losing a pound a week.

So. My strategy.

Fat fast.

I started losing again as soon as I lowered my protein and upped my fat, but it's hard to be consistent about it. I think I'll just throw together a really simple menu this weekend and pretty much stick to it for the next 2 or 3 weeks. Sausage for breakfast with heavy cream in my coffee. Not much chicken for the duration because of the high protein, so not sure what's for lunch yet. Snacks of green peppers and cream cheese - used to have that all the time, don't remember why I quit!

Starting weigh in on Monday, November 19th: 207

That's not quite a fair starting point since about 2 pounds of it is water that will likely be gone again next week anyway, but it is what it is.

So it looks like my immediate goal is what I had in mind anyway: to hit 199 by the end of the year. I came within a pound of it early this year (like February, I think) before I started exercise, but then my weight actually started going back up. Meh. *shrug*

I have some more analyzing to do to figure out how to tame my grazing habits.

I'm with you, lady... the challenge hit the wayside for me.

I need to learn some of your zen composure, for sure... I'm still in that sad state where when I have a bad day or even a "maintenance day," I go into a complete tailspin... What happened to my patience with the process? It seems to have flown out the window with the impending cruise timeline... I just can't bear that thought of being heavier this trip than I was when we went last November. :( Boo.

I'll say it because it's what I do, but I'm just not feeling it today... - For the (pudgy and impatient cow from the) Horde!

    You can do it!

I think I will try cream cheese and green peppers - sounds interesting!

I'm losing weight but you've really made me think more about this protein thing. I'm just reading the New Atkins book and it recommends for my height a range of 81-169g of protein. From what I'm reading, if I hit towards the top of that range I might be reversing my efforts. I'm going to work on that over the next week I think; less chicken-y snacks.
I just had a look at the 8lb challenge. Sounds great, but I think I'm just gonna keep doing my thing and watch you guys avidly. Good luck.
