Inner Journey - November Blog - Favourite Holiday

Friday, November 16, 2012

Within the group Inner Journey, this being the 3rd topic for this month, we have to talk about our favourite holiday, and food association with it.

My favourite holiday is pretty much all of them but i really enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year eve which goes into New Year's day, which all seems to fall together in a matter of a month and a bit. I guess the reason why we associated these holidays with foods is because of family gatherings, i have never had a family gather ever that did not involve around food, it was a family BBQ, a family picnic, a family meal, a family food feast each and every time. If it was just me and i had no real close relatives, it wouldn't be such a problem, but i love my family. And these holidays area always situated around those you love. I couldn't imagine them not being although this year for Thanksgiving i am away from my family and will not be celebrating it, since in South African it is not a holiday. So it will be like any other day. But i will take some time to pray and be thankful. Holidays are hard to control intake, but getting to know sparkpeople community and tips from others this year i plan to tackle them with a plan, having better and healthier alternatives to some of the foods. And take smaller portions, also make things at home to take, although it is a 4 hour drive so i will take an Esky. My weakness will clearly be the pies and Christmas puddings, oh how much i love that, and the bubbles for new year's eve and day! And not to forget my dad's traditional fruit bowl punch lol. And there probably be home made donuts, only thing these days my mother doesn't cook them healthy lol, but i will certainly do my best!

I have decided to give myself 3 free days this season, son's Christmas brunch, Christmas Eve and New Year's Day. The thing is that I can not eat as much as I use to, so even though I give myself permisssoin to eat what I choose, I will be eating small portions.

You will do just fine during Christmas. Just remember to pick yourself up and get back on track the next day.

Well if you have home made donuts once a year you are doing just fine. Plan for a couple of your Christmas faves and be good the rest of the time. You have to have some fun in life and its family memories too. emoticon
