I want to take this opportunity to thank Joy a.k.a. Lilac Lane for asking me to co-lead the Peppy Party. Every day I go through the blogs and try to support people the best I know how and yes, it takes a few minutes to do it. However, the rewards so outweigh any time spent. I am so grateful to be able to practice some leadership skills in retirement and to develop another side of myself. When I worked I was always asked to be Union president and I always declined. I never wanted to lead mostly because I like participative democracies. With me, I see all sides of a picture. In one way it makes me fair minded, on the other hand, that slows down any decision making I do. I am not the most decisive person on the planet. Getting to co-lead, I get to make a lot of mini-decisions - maybe post a topic or a challenge or try to find the right words to motivate others. I am sure sometimes I hit, sometimes I miss. But the Peppy Party members are too sweet to mention the misses.
I never imagined when I joined SparkPeople that I would have these virtual friends that are sometimes more supportive that real ones LOL. A finer group of women and one brave man (Ellish) I could not have dreamt up from my imagination. No matter what the problem I have, some one in the group will treat it with dignity and respect and help me. No one trivializes feelings expressed and unfortunately that is not always the case in the real world.
The shared stories and challenges mean that you are never alone in your struggle. It is empowering not only to give but to be accepting of what is given.
To sum it up, even though the Canadian Thanksgiving has passed I want to give thanks just in time for the American Thanksgiving for all that has been given by you to me.
