Dealing with Family

Friday, November 16, 2012

I can do this.

My brother phoned yesterday about details of our Houston trip. We will both be staying with our cousin Mary for a few days starting Sunday. He's coming from NC, I'm coming from
CA. I'm not looking forward to this. But, I've prepared [I think].

1] I have read a book about dealing with difficult people and have a couple of new strategies.
2] I read a blog and I have a couple of new zingers.
3] I've lost 35-40 pounds since I saw him last and my self-confidence is much improved.
4] Mary will be there if I need a shoulder to cry on.
5] SP is everywhere there is internet, so I can cry on all your shoulders, too. Or give you a good report.

I'm beginning to feel better from my respiratory infection and should be even more improved by Sunday when I get on the plane. With help from my Spark Friends, I can do this!

Smile while you grit your teeth, and then go for a walk. Or come here and vent. You can do this!

And I'm hoping things go better than you expect - that's what happened when we spent a day with my sister in Mpls. Of course, that was only one day, which is about all we can take of each other.......

    Keeping it simple will work.
    Rise above it.
Keep your head up and don't let anyone get to you.
    How are you feeling today?
    Wishing you the very best.
    Hugs,

P.S. Remember...we have your back! and are always here for you. emoticon

I'm with the others about not engaging with any crap your brother tries to bring. Focus on the fun things and people. I hope you're feeling 100% before Sunday, nothing worse than flying when under the weather.

I agree with SlimmerJesse. Simply refuse to engage. By engaging, you blow wind in his sails. You are going to have a great time with everyone else! Just think how great you're going to feel in your healthy new body!

Remember that it will be over fast and then you'll be home sweet home. Don't buy into all the old games and that'll make them fall on their faces with surprise. You can do this and will surprise yourself at how well you do. And thank you so much for your wonderful goodie. Such a thoughtful treat.

Safe trip -- Stay Calm and Carry On. Carry your accomplishments with you and exude that confidence you are feeling.

Remember, it is always more about the person saying it than it is about you.

(Just came back from a family visit that was great -- but still had its stressful moments, so I speak from personal experience).

And hope you feel better before you board the plane!

You seem to have all bases covered. Sit back, relax, and above all try to enjoy the whole thing. It's going to be over soon. emoticon

Personally, I practice avoidance with my brother! Good luck, I'll be thinking about you.
