We all have one of those days sometimes. I had one on Tuesday and another on Wednesday and I decided I didn't want to make it a hat trick so today I was determined to do better.

So I'm sitting here with Laptop typing in everything I've eaten (two chocolates, 60 calories each. Can this be true? It's WRONG on so many levels) and wrestling with the tracker which also has its days, today being clearly one of them. First it swallows everything I had for lunch, then when I reenter it, it regurgitates it again so it shows that I've gone hugely over my calories and I'm panicking and going 'where did all THAT come from?'

Work out what the problem is and delete the double lunch.

Nice idea, mind.

Then I start reviewing the day's freg. I'm a bit hampered by the fact that my scales are sulking because I stood them in a pool of water on the kitchen counter the other day. I am hoping that they'll get over it if I buy them a new battery. Anyway, I think to myself, there's the three largish mushrooms (cultivated, worry not, reader mine, I have not taken to eating what I photograph. Yet.) I ate with my pasta. Call them a portion. And the small bottle of smoothie I had at lunchtime, a second portion. And . . . er. The slice of tomato in my bacon sarnie at lunchtime. And that's it.


Deary me. Normally I don't have to think about freggies much, because I like them all but I just haven't got around to them today.

Head for kitchen, open fridge door. I am not that hungry you know, owing to the pasta with mushrooms and bacon and parmesan and a whole teaspoon of butter that I accidentally entered as 33 grammes of butter rather than .33 of a tablespoon. It's not always the tracker's fault, sometimes it's mine. If things don't look to be adding up right on the tracker there's generally a reason like the time I told it I'd eaten 8000 grammes of spinach rather than 80. There are a surprising number of calories in 8000g spinach, I'd advise against eating that much, really I would. We don't want to end up looking like Popeye, either.

Where was I? Oh yes, with my head in the fridge looking for freg . . . hm. I select a 500 gramme carton of grapes, weighed by Sainsbury's so I know how many in there. 500g is er er er six and a bit portions of freg. Also 194 calories so I can afford to eat the lot. I'm not entirely convinced that you're supposed to eat most of your freggies for the day in one fell swoop, but I do not do moderation and the grapes have been there a week so they need eating.

I've just realised I've got a litre and a half of water to drink, too.


PS the title is from a poem, the whole of which you can read here but the grape in the poem is in fact wine. And quite right too.

PPS has anyone else noticed that if you put 1 tablespoon of 'chunk style' (crunchy?) peanut butter in the tracker it calls you a liar and enters it as two? Or does it only do this to me?

    I love my grapes too. Lately, I've been eating bunch of salad and always put spinach in my salad but not 8000 gram. Lol. Loved your blog again. Take care.

    No, it's not just you. Chunky peanut butter is one of my favorite snacks, and I eat a tablespoon of it almost every day. And every day, I have to correct the tracker, who apparently thinks we all need to eat 2. You'd think it would at least offer us a 2 for the price of 1 deal calorie-wise, but no go. Maybe we should complain. I wouldn't mind eating an extra tablespoon of peanut butter a day, I really wouldn't.

All those tracker problems must be from them doing site maintenance the other night. I've never made a mistake entering my food. It's just that sometimes my keyboard is wacko.

When I got my scales wet and they didn't work right anymore, I called the company that made them and the nice lady told me to leave the battery out of it for over 2 hours. I thought she was nuts, but it worked. Something about giving it time to reset to factory settings and reboot itself. Anyway, it worked. 'Course I had to re-enter my gender, height and age so it could calculate my % body fat again.

    I think I have changed it to one and it seemed to have like it - I know that "they" say a "standard" serving of peanut butter is 2 tablespoons. Blech thats too much.

    Too funny, I wrote a blog the other day on how my tracker said I ate over 22,000 calories! It was a typo on my end. Instead of .23 cup of peanuts I type in 23 cups of peanuts. Yikes!!!

And yes the peanut butter does automatically say two table spoons but I fight till I win! knowing if I do so I also burn some calories for the wrestling match.

And yes I heard your veggies are supposed to be throughout the day because it helps balance your hunger. I read it when someone pointed out how many serving was in their smoothie and was proud of it. The response was "That's a NO NO!" Oops! But it was more of a what if you eat all your serving of fruit and veggies at once then you might over it the rest of the day because the side dish would be something other than fruit and veggies. So, in my opinion not a bad thing just a challenge instead of precaution to keep them spread out through the day.

    My local farmer's market had fresh brussel sprouts last Saturday...still on the stalk. Those have to be one of THE oddest veggies! You look at that, and (1) You know, that our creator definitely had a sense of humor, and (2) You wonder who was the very first person to look at those things and think,,,yes, we can EAT those!!

It sounds like you need to go to the market and get a fresh supply of fruits and veg!

Thought of you the other day...I was in my local "all things British" store, it's called The Pie Shop, and of course I had to get a small sleeve of McVities. Yum...nom nom nom lol

    Once I entered 18000 g of sodium for a food. I kept coming up with huge amounts of sodium and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I eventually realized it only occurred when I made a specific recipe. I've also had the double entry several times. It happens when my server is running slow.

When I get a chocolate craving I make some Jello sugar-free instant chocolate fudge pudding--70 calories for 1/2 cup--and that satisfies that urge. The one I can't get over is when I am craving pizza. I've finally decided to consider it an appetizer and eat just 1 or 2 small pieces followed by a light meal. This is high calorie but if I don't I just keep eating substitutes for the pizza and end up with more calories.

    My life is all about fruits and veggies as I eat at least one salad per day. I made one for dinner - quite simple - and then I got near the bottom to where all the onions, tomatoes, and cheese had dropped to, so I went back to the kitchen and added red cabbage and more lettuce! It's like the never-ending salad bowl!

I am just a salad maniac these days. I added tuna salad to mine tonight, and on the second trip added some genoa salami and croutons - splurging for me!

Then I have a fruit plate to munch on when I settle in for TV. What I need to work on is eating more "regular" meals. I know I am making some seriously thick steaks on Sunday when my parents come in! And maybe more chicken and dumplings! YUMMY!

    If the serving size is 2 then you have to put 0.5 and it will be half of the nutrients. Try adding them both if you are in doubt you can always hit DELETE.
The tracker is great as a calculator to compare things. Pat in Maine emoticon .

    Loved your blog as usual. Next time when you eat only 1 TBS of peanut butter, make sure you change the 1 on the tracker to read 0.5 - - it makes a big difference; of course, unless you really did eat the 2 TBS and tried getting away with something! LOL

    Standard serving of peanut butter, when going by TBSP is 2. I find that you have to change to TBSP first, THEN change the amount. (or to cup, gram, ounce, or whatever measure you are going by).

    The tracker has doubled my entries, and - yes - it's very disconcerting until I realize what happened. Now I just do a quick double-take at the totals, but the first time...oh my! I was MOST upset to think I had only 3 calories left for supper!!

    Yummy grapes.

I've been there, done that with the tracker. Honey (default is 1 cup?!), vanilla extract (seriously, who "eats" 1 cup of that in one sitting?!) and whenever I switch to grams from other measurements (100 grams of cinnamon? really?). The funny / sad part is when I don't notice for a while and am frantically trying to get enough protein the rest of the day without digging any deeper in the over my calories hole.
