Twas the grape!

We all have one of those days sometimes. I had one on Tuesday and another on Wednesday and I decided I didn't want to make it a hat trick so today I was determined to do better.

So I'm sitting here with Laptop typing in everything I've eaten (two chocolates, 60 calories each. Can this be true? It's WRONG on so many levels) and wrestling with the tracker which also has its days, today being clearly one of them. First it swallows everything I had for lunch, then when I reenter it, it regurgitates it again so it shows that I've gone hugely over my calories and I'm panicking and going 'where did all THAT come from?'

Work out what the problem is and delete the double lunch.

Nice idea, mind.

Then I start reviewing the day's freg. I'm a bit hampered by the fact that my scales are sulking because I stood them in a pool of water on the kitchen counter the other day. I am hoping that they'll get over it if I buy them a new battery. Anyway, I think to myself, there's the three largish mushrooms (cultivated, worry not, reader mine, I have not taken to eating what I photograph. Yet.) I ate with my pasta. Call them a portion. And the small bottle of smoothie I had at lunchtime, a second portion. And . . . er. The slice of tomato in my bacon sarnie at lunchtime. And that's it.

Oops.

Deary me. Normally I don't have to think about freggies much, because I like them all but I just haven't got around to them today.

Head for kitchen, open fridge door. I am not that hungry you know, owing to the pasta with mushrooms and bacon and parmesan and a whole teaspoon of butter that I accidentally entered as 33 grammes of butter rather than .33 of a tablespoon. It's not always the tracker's fault, sometimes it's mine. If things don't look to be adding up right on the tracker there's generally a reason like the time I told it I'd eaten 8000 grammes of spinach rather than 80. There are a surprising number of calories in 8000g spinach, I'd advise against eating that much, really I would. We don't want to end up looking like Popeye, either.

Where was I? Oh yes, with my head in the fridge looking for freg . . . hm. I select a 500 gramme carton of grapes, weighed by Sainsbury's so I know how many in there. 500g is er er er six and a bit portions of freg. Also 194 calories so I can afford to eat the lot. I'm not entirely convinced that you're supposed to eat most of your freggies for the day in one fell swoop, but I do not do moderation and the grapes have been there a week so they need eating.

If you want to know where I am, follow the nom nom nom.

I've just realised I've got a litre and a half of water to drink, too.

Argh.

PS the title is from a poem, the whole of which you can read here but the grape in the poem is in fact wine. And quite right too.

PPS has anyone else noticed that if you put 1 tablespoon of 'chunk style' (crunchy?) peanut butter in the tracker it calls you a liar and enters it as two? Or does it only do this to me?

I am SO with you on all counts - thanks for that humorous look at life a la Spark on a gray tiring Friday afternoon - you are the pickup that I needed and also thank you so much for reminding me about those grapes lurking in my fridge. I have got the munchies and your timely reminder has me heading for the grapes instead of those nuts and chockies left over from last night's bunco party emoticon
hope that you have a super weekend and stay on track now

Great Blog. Very astute, and entertaining!

As for the peanut butter, or anything that you are changing from the amount that comes up, just go to Tablespoons, it will come up and say 2, just change the 2 to a 1, and it will enter your proper amount if you are eating only one tablespoon.

If you are eating a 1/2 cup of something that says 1 cup, just change it to .50. Tracker will not take fractions, so that may be an issue for you as well. Also, 1/3 of a cup is .33, 1/4 of a cup is .25, etc. I am sure you get the idea.

Glad you are enjoying your journey! Continue on down that road.

Re: peanut butter: most things you enter come up automatically to what is generally regarded as a serving. SO on my PB jar, 2 T is one serving.

If I am only eating one T, I enter .5 T.

Is this what you're talking about??

However, if you click grams, the usual choice is 100. I haven't figured out what happens if I change that to 200 grams. Does it think I mean 200 grams literally, or 200 -100 gram servings??

For me the HARDEST thing to have to deal with on the tracker are rice, quinoa, and potatoes. Why aren't they offered as grams??

Ha-ha...yep we all have days like that! And Nutrition Tracker stories, well I got a million...like the time I was rushing and tracked that I'd had 1 DOZEN eggs, with 1 piece of light toast for breakfast. And aah...but those grapes add up quickly!

Hope you have a great weekend! emoticon

Ha, I'm like that when I eat.

Dunno about the peanut butter. I entered the nutritional info of the peanut butters I like and save them to Favorites. I've nit had chunky in quite a while because I couldn't have them when I had braces when my son was born, and now he is in his braces so it just seems better to not have it around. Now I have a hankering for it!!

As for grapes - I kinda consider them useful calories because if I just eat nothing but grapes, as much as I want, nothing else, it has quite the softening effect on the contents of my leadened guts.... A nice, cheaper, non-toxic non-addicting laxative!!

Cheers!

I too struggle to eat all my freggies everyday and can't seem to figure out how to get better at that. In my defense though I do eat more now than I did 6 months ago and I do have an apple on most days. There is always veggies with dinner and I add raisins to my oatmeal so I do try.

I love to read your blogs everyday and look forward to seeing what you are up to. emoticon

Just as you accidentally logged 8000g spinach one day, I accidentally logged 200g of tinned peaches as 200 cups of tinned peaches - my calorie total went through the roof (and half way to the moon!)!

I loved your sense of humor and YES that tracker does get carried away sometimes. Sometimes when I enter a food item straight from the label, the tracker seems to change what was entered. I've even deleted the information and re-entered it...food tracker changed it again. Frustrated, I finally see it's a no win situation and let the tracker have it's way (even though I'm sure the company that manufactures the food would disagree) emoticon
