I am so grateful for my family for supporting me in my weight loss/maintenance endeavors. The kids were very young when I started walking in the early mornings, and when I added afternoon workout DVDs, they learned just how far they could go before mom had to pause the video and come out to break something up. Eventually, it just became routine, and they never complained about my occupation of the family room 3 or 4 afternoons a week.
Through all of it, my husband was my rock, my pillar and my cheerleader. He took in stride the change in our eating habits and never tried to sabotage my efforts to eat better. He watched the kids on Sundays when I did my long runs, and, as the kids got older and could be left alone, he even started to join me. He started out walking, then running, and now has come so far as to be signed up to do the Seattle Half-Marathon with me the weekend after next. The kids actually participated in several races, too, and I was so proud when all 4 of us showed up on race day to run (even if it was grumpily, Buddy!). Post race breakfasts as a family were awesome! I realize that many of us on the weight loss path have the additional burden of having to work around less-than-supportive family and friends, and this makes me doubly thankful that I have my family behind me!
