Squeezing in activity

Thursday, November 15, 2012

It isn't pt always easy, that's for sure. Yesterday I finally went for a run along the Hudson river . . . I figured I'd do an easy 2-3 miles, but it turned into a 5 mile tempo run. It felt good to move!

I also brought resistance bands with me - I've done one Coach Nichole routine. I'm generally too tired at night to do anything - not getting quite as much sleep as I'm used to. Mostly we are just sitting by my dad's bedside.

He is doing amazingly well & we are hoping he may be dischharged tomorrow. He sometimes says the wrong word or the same word twice, but it gets better each day & I expect that will eventually pass - we'll see what the dr says.

HE actually said yesterday that maybe it's time for them to move out of their house. I have been pushing that for several years now. I know they love their home - they've lived there 40 yrs - but a) it's way too large and b) there's a flight of stairs up to the front door & he wasn't too steady on his feet before all this happened.

He walked a couple of times with a walker yesterday - no problems. We'll bring his cane down today. Didn't want to leave it there because he still wants to get out of bed by himself & didn't want to tempt him.

The staff has been truly wonderful. So kind & caring.

He has a very good appetite. The first day he had to be prodded to eat, but that changed quickly.

We are actually staying in the hospital . . . they have a few rooms here for family & my mom was lucky enough to get one. Very convenient. They even bring in high tea in the afternoon (free!) & someone on staff plays the piano. Since my brother left yesterday & there are only 2 beds I am sleeping on an air mattress I brought with me. 3 women sharing one very small bathroom . . .

So I hope to be home by this weekend & can then turn my energies to my cat & get my long run in . . . then prep for Vegas . . . I expect life isn't really getting back to normal anytime soon.

Thanks for writing and reaching out to us. So glad you're remembering to take care of yourself. The hospital sounds unusually enlightened about families. And your father sounds like he's improving. I'm hoping he recovers fully and that you and your family keep your health as well.
