Something Amazing...suggestion

Thursday, November 15, 2012

I listened to a podcast today that talked about doing small things each day that move towards the big goal. I am trying to think of what mine might be. I want to accomplish something but, I am not getting very far.

So I will think of what I want my daily little bits to be so that I can get to where I want to go.

If you have suggestions I would love to hear it.

I started small...I cut out pop...but still allowed it occasionally.
Gave up sugar...HUGE difference! ;)
Added more water to my day. Thank you flavor packs...couldn't have done it without you. ;)
Started walking a15 minute mile every other day...worked up to everyday. Then upgrades to 2 miles every other day...then everyday. Occasionally i try 3...but right now I'm more comfortable doing a 2 mile...then maybe 1 more later in the day.

You really have to just find what works for you. Little steps add up and take you farther than pushing yourself too hard and either giving up or burning out. Also...have fun with it. It's a lifestyle change to be healthier. And you want life to be fun. ;)

I think that every day you can think about the one thing that was your struggle yesterday. That can be your victory today.

You can have a list, but it really seems more effective to work on your current struggle. Each day, you are strong at one thing and the next day another. Make this positive for you.

I have an acronym that I use to help me concentrate on the little things:

er (at least 8 glasses)
Alcohol (none)
Record (everything)
Read (something positive about dieting, even if it's just other blogs)
Vitamins (take them!)
Exercise (some sort of intentional exercise each day
Snack (make sure they are sensible and PLANNED
Table (eat only at the kitchen table)

When I can check these off, each and every day, I lose weight. When I get slack, I don't. Little things DO add up!

Find opportunities to sneak in a healthy habit. First I pick an area of focus...
-put my fork down until done chewing.
-always include a veggie with every meal.
- park further from the door
- take the stairs
- take a fitness break. (walk around the house, stretch)
-phone a friend.

Have you menu planned for the week. Make the shopping list @ the same time. That's what I call a "two-fer!"

Bonus: I do big batch cooking, so on those days that are crazy busy I am not starved, figuring out what to eat. I have a meal ready-to-go in the freezer!

A tip that works for me is: DON'T purchase foods you have trouble resisting. And if you HAVE to have that taste, even though it may be more expensive, buy it in the smallest size available. Or if you do want to save by buying the larger size, eat a little and give the rest away. emoticon
