Bonus blog: 612 miles, per the google map directions

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

That's how far I went in 12 total hours, including stops, road construction and the unexpected cell phone call from work person. Sheesh! Who calls someone on vacation "I have a specific question, hope you don't mind."

Worse, who calls a military mom who is driving on her cell phone? Visions of Class A uniforms dance in your head! I happened to be negotiating a change of highways near St. Louis at the time this call came in and at first it irked the heck out of me.

Later I decided to be grateful instead that it WAS something stupid, and not some emergency I couldn't do anything about anyway!

ps. can you tell I'm having trouble with wrist/thumb hitting the touch pad and posting when I am NOT ready? Tablets are portable, but they can be a pain.

Anyway, have I mentioned lately this is a gorgeous nation we inhabit?

Waved toward Sunny as I drove through Missouri! It was too dark to see any of Nebraska or Iowa. Pulled out of the driveway at 5 a.m., stopped at motel in Paducah, KY at 5 p.m. Nice room with internet access, thus I'm posting. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Have a Sparking great Thursday, all!

That's good progress for driving through new territory! And yes, those calls while driving can be annoying. They're less so since I got a bluetooth headset; if I remember to wear it, answering is just tap the button on my ear.

Of course, all my calls are from my daughter. I'd be annoyed at a call from work, too.

Yes I've had those annoying phone calls that aren't emergencies when on vacation driving long distances. Glad that nothing was serious with any of those calls and you had a safe trip. That's a lot of mileage! Too bad some of it you couldn't see because of the dark. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

I love that trip through southern Illinois into Kentucky.

We stayed at Paducaht one year on our way to Florida.

Thanks for the "wave by". Had I know, I would have been
standing on the front porch.

Best wishes on the half marathon!

Huggers, Sunny

I don't answer my phone when I'm driving. If my son is in the car, I'll ask him to answer it. Very often, that results in the other person hanging up as they think they have reached a wrong number. I have a deep voice, but my son's basso profundo is unmistakably male.

Whatever they are calling about, it will keep until I can get somewhere to check it safely. We survived before we had cell phones and we will survive now -- but only if we DO NOT check them while driving.

I tried to answer my cell phone when on a trip once (not on a major highway) and accidentally threw it on the floor. Needless to say, I didn't try that again. Both CA and OR have laws now that you can only talk if you have a Bluetooth.

Ohhhh boy . . . my family and friends know better than to call me on the cell phone unless it's an emergency! LOL I know what you mean.

Well, glad you're safely tucked in for a rest. Good golly Miss Molly, you packed on the miles!

HUGS and travel safely.

Great progress on your trip. I get calls when I am on vacation sometimes, just goes with the job. One time everyone was told not to call me, on pain of death, so they all emailed me instead. emoticon

I missed your wave to me in MN as you drove by. emoticon I don't live too far from Sunny. But I was busy doing yard work today. It was a wonderful warm (mid 50's) and sunny day here in MN. Took advantage of it since there won;t be many more.

I hope I am not reading this right that you actually took a cell phone call while driving at highway speeds?? That is how accidents can happen :( My province has rightly enacted severe fines for anyone caught texting or being on their cell phone while driving. My nephew went into the ditch because of it and a friend had her car rammed sideways by an idoit running a red light because they were on their phone. Its a touchy subject with me. I don't wish to see my friends injured or dead for want of a call. The thing about them -the message will always be there and as soon as you find a safe plce to pull over can return the call, a few minutes one way or the other won't make any difference -the news will always be the same.
I will get off my soapbox now and say, wow, that is a pile of miles to drive and is now why I appreciate airplane travel :) I get stiff just thinking about that long a ride :P

Yes, I've really been enjoying the drive. Too bad I can't both concentrate on driving AND get great photos at the same time. The panoramas coming down from Illinois into Western Kentucky... amazing!
