I have to confess, I've been putting off getting a tooth capped that a root canal was done on for ten years now... Actually, more like 12. OUCH. Of course, the last dentist I saw was a butcher and my mouth hurt for weeks afterward. Additionally, the Army dentist who gave me a root canal did so knowing that Army Dentists in general are not qualified to cap or crown teeth. So of course there were the initial years of frustration when I'd go to yet another Army clinic to hear, "You need to cap that tooth." BUT, "We don't do caps and crowns," BUT, "We don't pay for that service off post."
After years of frothing fury over it, I just gave up and let my tooth stay uncapped. I couldn't afford that procedure and I didn't have time.money/energy/interest in fixing it. Well last night I ran out of time to procrastinate. The back half of my tooth cleaved off of the front in a vertical break WELL below the gum line. DAMNIT.
My first reaction had been to simply extract it now and be done. Of course, for other, unrelated reasons, I can't afford to have an extraction performed for another three months (Doctor's decision, not mine). Now, of course, since I have to wait anyway, I may as well go see a specialist and see if there is enough tooth left to be worth saving. This isn't the Dark Ages afterall, if I can save a tooth obviously I want to.
Which brings me back to, "I Don't Have Time For This." Of course, eventually what you put off til tomorrow simply becomes an emergency. Dang it.
SIGH, what a pain in the butt.
The single, bright and shiny silver lining of all of this: if they hadn't done a root canal on this tooth I'd be in excruciating pain over it right now. Of course, had it been nothing more than a cavity, I'd have filled it 12 years ago...
OK, enough griping. Thank you for letting me vent, I needed that.
