Training Crazy!

Ugh, sorry it's been so long since my last blog post. My life has suddenly become incredibly crazy!

First, I had an interview and audition at the YMCA to become a Zumba Instructor. Once hired, I had to go through First Aid/CPR/AED training and then they offered a Group Fitness Instructor Certification class. It was done over two days and was INTENSE (psst, I passed top of my class)! I was really worried about the class, too, because everyone except me came from a fitness background. When they asked me what my experience was with heath and fitness, I had to say "Um....well....I was once obese and now I'm not...and that's it?". I'm glad I had the opportunity to take the glass, though, and learned a lot on how to safely and effectively run a group fitness class.

Next on my radar, I will be traveling about an hour away to get my Aqua Zumba Instructor License which is also an all day thing (this Sunday). Whew!! Also, between all these trainings, I've been leading songs in Zumba class and have even led a few of my own classes. I now have a permanent class that I teach on Thursday mornings.

Again, whew!! Who knew fitness was going to take over my life entirely?? Two years and 105lbs ago, I would have looked at you like you were crazy had you mentioned this was in my future. Isn't God good?? emoticon

    Congrats to you on your certification and getting your own class. Being a fitness instructor can be very time consuming BUT so worth it!!!!

    It was not, but they did use the ACE manual. It was an in-house YMCA Group Fitness Certification. It's good for 3 years, but you have to take continuing education credits every year to keep the certification. There's some info about it on Livestrong: http://www.livestrong.com/article/4

    I had the same question that JELLEN726 had---plus one more. Was it an ACE certification? I only ask because I thought I heard that the Y only accepted ACE certs. (I'm probably wrong on this...) Oh! and CONGRATS! Not only on passing, but on being at the TOP OF YOUR CLASS! That's gotta feel Great!

    It was a lot of classroom lecturing on the correct form for exercise/stretching/warmup/cooldown
    /ect. Also, we reviewed safety guidelines, basic anatomy, some behavior science, how to be a good motivator and the best ways to encourage people in their quest for a healthy lifestyle. It was very intense and my brain hurt after, but it was really good! HTH!
